With Stash, you can browse free Sketch resources, view pages and artboards, and import artboards with a single click. No more downloading entire files just to get an artboard or two.
Hey @jaaaaarek I really see a nice product in the making here, early stage but would evolve to something quite useful.
Pros:
- The idea itself, where it tackles the issue of finding and downloading whole files (which could have issues due to Sketch version changes)
- As simple as it can be
- Very stable as far I see
Cons:
- A lot of steps required to come to the point where you can actually start using it (download app, register, download plugin, install plugin)
- The marketplace lacking search+categories (content as well but that's not about the app itself really)
I'd be very happy if this was actually browser based. I'm not sure if it's technically possible or not to be honest but instead of going through the whole process, it'd be nice to visit your website, pick a file and directly import the artboards I want.
I'm not exactly sure how symbols and libraries would be managed here.
Overall good job! I will be following updates π
@fricklers First, thank you for your thoughtful feedback! Regarding some of your points...
1. Some of these steps are necessary, like downloading the plugin, as it's the primary method for importing artboard data into Sketch. I don't think it will be possible to import artboards without some sort of plugin.
2. Downloading the app is necessary at this point too, although we are exploring the possibility of being web-based. That won't likely happen for some time, as we're focusing our time and resources into making Stash even more stable and to make sure our plugin imports data with complete precision. We found that lots of people actually enjoy the native app experience as opposed to the browser (as most Sketch users appreciate that Sketch itself is a standalone app). "it'd be nice to visit your website, pick a file and directly import the artboards I want." Yes, that would be a great experience, I agree!
3. Search is something definitely on our radar. If you wanted to find an artboard with analytics charts, it would be nice to search "analytics" and see artboards related to that, not only to search by artboard names, but actually search the layer names within those artboards. That's a big lift and is something we need to spend some time on to make right. That's likely further down the road.
4. We currently don't have categories right now, no. This is something currently in our backlog. Categories will likely come pretty soon, we planned on shipping this with 1.0, but needed more time in redefining the upload process to make sure it's a great experience. Right now, uploading is super simple, you just upload... And that's it. With categories, we would need to redefine the upload process to select a category, which would add an extra step and adding extra steps (as you pointed out) isn't always a great experience.
5. In regards to symbols, symbols do import with the artboards. This was tricky to get right, but they do in fact import as symbols if the artboard contains symbols.
6. In regards to Libraries, one of the things I'd like for us to do sooner rather than later is to add files as Sketch Libraries. So, when exploring Stash, not only could you import artboards, but you would also be able to add a file as a Library. This is something I'd like to see happen very soon, so stay tuned for that!
Thanks again for taking the time to write your feedback, really appreciate it! Please let me know if you need some clarifications on my response, it's quite lengthy, but I wanted to add some detail to give you a better idea on our vision.
@fricklers We heard you loud and clear: "it'd be nice to visit your website, pick a file and directly import the artboards I want.". We recently rebranded and launched on the web! Check it out here: https://www.producthunt.com/post...
Hello all!
This is something we've been working on part-time for almost three years. We believe we've built a great foundation for an amazing new cloud experience for design resources and we'll continue building on it going forward. If you have any feedback or ideas, please let us know. Thanks to all who helped get us here, including those who took part in our private beta. Enjoy!
