html.earth is a tiny site generator that converts Markdown input to HTML pages. It comes with a front matter editor, custom styling field, and import & export options.
Hey folks,
I'm excited to introduce html.earth - a simple site generator for writers.
Video demo: https://youtu.be/i3Y4Eg48qfQ
Just write your articles and pages in Markdown format. As you type, you get a live preview of how your content will look. The tool has built-in styling options to customize the CSS. You also get a front-matter editor to manage SEO and social media metadata.
And once you finish editing, you can export your content as .HTML or .md. You could also import your HTML or markdown as the primer while retaining its meta-data.
👇 bare minimum features
✅ markdown editor & live preview
✅ HTML preview
✅ front-matter editor
✅ word-counter
✅ export to .html or .md
✅ import .html or .md while retaining the metadata
🤔 Why html.earth?
The main philosophy behind html.earth is that creating simple web pages should be as direct and low-friction as possible. Too often, perfect content goes unpublished or lost because the hurdles of software, platforms, and technical skills get in the way.
Another key idea is creating evergreen HTML content that stands the test of time. By generating standard HTML and CSS, the sites created with html.earth should remain accessible even if the tool or its hosting platform disappears someday.
If you enjoyed using other static site generators but found them too tech-heavy, give html.earth a try. Here's a demo article created using the tool: https://html.earth/a-reactjs-nig... (served by Cloudflare Pages).
@jotzilla congratualations on the launch. Love the work, I'm a heavy user of second brain on markdown files for projects and would love to share a "section" over slack or something. Would be great if you could host or open-source a part allowing others to "serve" up pages that are one-time use or even temporary shares like Dropbox links. Keep up the work!
@koconder Hi Vincent, Thank you for the feedback and suggestion. I originally kept the product simple to focus on the core capabilities - but your feedback proves what additional features would provide the most value. Expect to see an update enabling this within the next week.
@jotzilla you've just released an amazing tool specifically tailored for writers! It's great to see so much dedication and hard work, and it is sure to be a hit. Well done!
I like how html.earth caters specifically to writers with its Markdown to HTML conversion feature! It's great to see that it also comes with a front matter editor and custom styling field, allowing for more customization options. I'm curious, are there any plans to integrate version control systems like Git to make collaboration easier for writers working on the same project? Keep up the great work!
@dmytrosem Thank you for the comment and feedback. Collaboration isn't on the roadmap. However, in the future, I do plan to incorporate some cloud features so html.earth can function as a basic hosting platform or minimal blogger.
@detkov HI Nikita, Thanks for the comment. I plan to add Cloud sync and publish features for the next release. More like a minimal blogger/content archive.
Congratulations on the launch✨
The support for GMF and the speedy rendering are excellent features. I would be even more delighted if it were released as open source.
Congratulations on launching html.earth! This looks like a great tool for quickly creating HTML sites from Markdown. What features do you think make it stand out compared to other site generators?
@rana_phool
Thank you for the feedback. Rather than competing with larger platforms, I aimed to remove as much friction as possible for authoring HTML content. Markdown makes writing intuitive, and the automatic formatting and validation help ensure well-structured output. However, in the future, I do plan to incorporate some cloud features so html.earth can function as a basic hosting platform or blogging tool. But the core value will remain giving users an elegant and distraction-free HTML authoring experience without much extra fluff.
Congrats on the launch of html.earth,
Saw the video and this looks amazing! also, the live preview helps.
Looking forward to using it on a project website soon.
Hey Mighil! Congrats on the launch of html.earth, it sounds like a really user-friendly site generator for writers. I love the idea of creating simple web pages without the technical hurdles. Can't wait to give it a try! Do you have any plans for future updates or features?
Great tool for web page creation – the live preview and user-friendly interface make it a pleasure to use, simplifying the entire process! Can't wait to see more features added. Awesome job, @jotzilla!
This sounds like a useful tool for writers! How user-friendly is the front-matter editor, and does it support custom metadata fields? Also, is there a templating system for customizing the generated HTML and CSS?
@andrew_kee Hi Andrew. Thanks for the comment. Right now it only supports editing the standard metadata fields, but custom options can be easily added in the next update. Same with the templating system - now it's very basic, but it's possible to cutomize the style according to user's preferences. For the next update, I plan to add a better layout for template editing. There will also be a really simple cloud sync option -- so users can save themes / publish on html.earth / share their articles.
