Hi there Product Hunters, Rick here! I’m delighted to share with everyone an exciting new way to buy and manage domains, websites and digital products. With Spaceship, we have created a smart and powerful new platform that allows any customer to find, purchase, connect and manage digital products in a completely new and seamless way. We aim to empower our customers to get online easier and faster than ever before, by managing the inherent complexities that are usually associated with digital products. Things like setting up DNS, managing subscriptions, not being able to easily switch between products and add-ons are only some of the core issues that many customers face today. Through our smart use of technology we will solve these problems by managing the complexities in the background and we will match those solutions to an intuitive design and world-class user experience to effectively simplify the entire customer journey and flow. This new platform will be at the forefront of connecting our customers to any digital product by bringing them together in a way that almost anyone can understand, breaking down entry barriers for the less tech-savvy, and in the process will redefine what seamless means within our industry and beyond. We’d love to see you onboard, so come and give us a try. All of our domains are available at low introductory prices, as are our cloud-based web hosting and email plans. A word on the future. Our hard work doesn’t stop here. In fact, we’re still very much in creator/build mode. After I announced early beta access to Spaceship at the end of last year, I'm really pleased to now unveil this next 'open beta' version of Spaceship to you here on PH. What does 'open beta' mean? Basically we continue to work on perfecting Spaceship and adding exciting enhancements and products to it, so that's something to bear in mind with any feedback you may have for us. As we love to be super transparent, we also have a public roadmap of upcoming features and products on the website here: https://www.spaceship.com/roadmap/. So stay tuned. This is going to be an exciting ride! P.S. An enormous thank you to @maccaw for hunting us!

@maccaw @rick_kirkendall Nice job! Can you please explain what's the difference between your product and a random hosting provider?
Rick Kirkendall
@maccaw @rick_kirkendall @radu_tudosescu Hey Radu, thanks for your question! I think it starts first and foremost with the amazing user experience at Spaceship. Our goal is to create the best user experience that exists in our industry bar none. We've built and thought about everything from the ground up starting with a domain and how it connects to your products including you hosting via something that we call "unboxing" that let's you set up your domain with any product with just a few steps and without ever having to touch your dns settings. We've also consolidated how you manage your subscriptions by making it easy and super transparent to upgrade, downgrade and cancel or suspend any of your products at any time and easily in one place within our subscriptions application. Making payments for anything is also easy as our instant payment system happens in context at any time and all within the experience you are in at that moment so you never lose your place. When it comes to hosting, our goal is to bring everything in terms of management into the Spaceship platform so you no longer have to jump around between different control panels and management tools including building our own from the ground up. We've started this journey to a degree but there's a still a whole lot we are doing in the near future to really make this possible. This is just the beginning and it is our customers and their feedback that will be the driving force to the Spaceship evolution going forward!

@maccaw @rick_kirkendall @radu_tudosescu The deal with Spaceship seems rather concerning. Why isn't there free SSL with NameCheap & Spaceship? Most reputable web hosts include this as a standard feature, unless the strategy is to force customers to buy an SSL certificate and earn a little extra on yearly renewals. It's frustrating when companies push for 'upgrades' as the answer to basic issues. It's a classic sign of a company that prioritizes shareholder interests over customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the lack of an autobackup solution is alarming. If there's a change in your card details and they can't bill you, they'd delete your entire account in just 7 days. If they do introduce autobackup, there's ambiguity regarding how much data they'll back up. Is it 100%? 20%? The thought of a website, potentially maintained for a decade, being deleted within a week is harrowing. A web host should prioritize data protection, especially when there are billing issues. It would be more customer-friendly to offer a paid data recovery option for up to 1 or 2 years. This would incentivize customers to stay, rather than switch to a competitor. Additionally, the absence of migration services is a downside. It appears challenging to move in and out of their platform. It seems they're keen on ensnaring customers in auto-renewals. While the pricing might seem attractive initially, there seem to be many hidden catches. In today's age, transparency and authenticity are paramount, especially for a tech-savvy audience. I'd advise caution with Spaceship until they rectify these issues. There's no justification for omitting a free auto SSL. It's a simple feature that can provide secure websites through the LiteSpeed web server. Their user experience isn't groundbreaking either. It seems more convoluted than CPANEL, with the "unboxing" feature being its only redeeming quality. Overall, there are too many deal-breakers for me to consider joining. My experiences have left me questioning my trust in the company.

Shared hosting and domain registration are commodity services. What's the difference between your service and a random picked hosting provider?
Rick Kirkendall
@antoangelino Hey Antonio, thanks for your question! Please see my answer to Radu above.

Trying to figure what's the difference between what Namecheap already offers vs Spaceship. The design layer is different, anything else I'm missing?
Rick Kirkendall
@harlakshs Hzey Harlaksh, you can start with pricing, customizable control panel/launchpad, fast payment system, applications model and library, set up via unboxing, easy subscriptions management, advanced dns set up with propagation tracking, better ux and speed, in house built spacemail and much more.
Cyril Gupta
Good luck with the launch! This product seems cool

It's great to see an initiative like this from Namecheap. I am a domainer, perhaps better described as a domain addict, tending to buy domains for every seemingly grand idea I get, which adds up to quite a few, ongoing. I mainly use Namecheap for my domain purchases, but am quite unhappy with the buying experience and have been for quite a while. Namecheap.com is fairly buggy, for instance often showing premium domains at normal/hand-reg prices and loads of failed orders due to it. For that reason I have seriously considered moving all my domains away from Namecheap, since quite a bit of time is wasted at my end due to these bugs. What I am wondering is: Are there any plans to making it easier for existing Namecheap customers to transition to Spaceship without having to place orders for transfers one-by-one? Meaning a bulk transfer option of sorts. That would make the switch to Spaceship (vs. a switch to a Namecheap competitor) far more appealing and Namecheap would keep the business, so to speak, instead of loosing it. EDIT: Just to be clear, I am aware of the bulk transfer functionality. It is, however, very tedious and time consuming to unlock many domains, fetching auth codes from emails, create a spreadsheet/text file with the domain names + auth codes, etc. An easy way to transition to Spaceship from Namecheap would help keep domainers with many domains @ Namecheap, albeit via Spaceship.

@iamlasse Hey Lasse, thank you for your feedback and for sharing your experience with Namecheap. I completely understand the concerns and frustrations you've voiced. This will be different with Spaceship with new infra and technology under the hood. Regarding your question about transitioning from Namecheap to Spaceship: we're already in the process of adding an option to upload a CSV file for bulk transfer on Spaceship. And taking back to our product team your point on making the preparation phase easier on Namecheap side. Keep an eye on our public roadmap https://www.spaceship.com/roadmap/
