Increasingly I'm seeing DIY art (Instagram-based Plaid Print from earlier today is another example). Upload a sound or record your own to translate it into a artistic wave. Here's a visual of Gang Starr, Moment of Truth:
Music is the obvious example but something more personal, like a baby's first words as they suggest, is really neat. IMHO, the best art has a personal meaning or story behind it.
Disclaimer: it sounds like I'm being paid to pitch SoundViz but I'm just genuinely jazzed about it.
@rrhoover OK, I'm going to point it out. You used the word "jazzed" here and in your Medium post. Trying to bring it back? ;)
In all seriousness, this is super cool. I've always enjoyed following along with the shape of the songs on Soundcloud. Reminds me of watching tracks in ProTools when recording.
Hey Product Hunt! I'm Chelsea, one of the co-founders of SoundViz. Thanks for spending the time to look at our site. We're super excited to get your feedback!
Nice looking concept. Can't seem to make it work on mobile. There's a handful of companies already doing this but I like the look of these the most. If you guys need help with printing and fulfilment let me know-we can help I'm the co-founder of CanvasPop and DNA11. Good luck with this!
@king_of_canvas Adrian! Thank you very much! We're currently limiting support to desktop for the web client. There's a few technical limitations with the iOS web view that would make the user experience less than ideal, so we're holding off for now. I'd love to chat about fulfillment, though. Shoot me a note offline!
Yesterday my team decided to buy a present for a colleague who has decided to take his talent to south beach (obviously I use humor as a coping mechanism, he will be missed). That said, I remembered this product from 3 years ago and threw it out to the team as a going away gift option, especially since my soon-to-be former colleague was our *communications* manager. Long story short, the site was a breeze and the gift was a hit. I wanted to circle back and leave this positive remark in the hopes that others might see the review and decide to go the same route as us.
One piece of feedback: the radial layout has a lot of white space around the edges. I suggest making it possible to elongate the sound bars - to fill more of that space around the edges. We ultimately went with the linear layout for this reason.
