What about if there is no one else using Sonnet around me ? It doesn't work ? And can I use my own apps to communicate or do I have to use the Sonnet app ?
If the only point of this is to be able to communicate with other users who have the same device and are in a 5Km range... I don't really see any point to it, unless you are doing some kind of organised outdoors activity with a big group of people.
A CB network for 2017.
Really useful for missionaries in the middle of no where.
Thank you.
Also how can this be used to track people not wanting to be found?...
I love the idea of a very local network where everyone with one extends and doesn't require cell. It makes me want to pin one to my four daughters and their friends, ditch Snap.
Great idea - could see this being incredibly useful for hikers / backpackers in remote areas. Their campaign says they will eventually enable tethering via a firmware upgrade (allowing the device to be used as a modem). At that time, the only thing holding this back will be lack of saturation of devices.
Pretty neat. Would be sweet if the mesh could be more than 5 * 16 == 80 km. (Also, would be even better if the protocol behind it was an open standard so we don't end up with 14 different networks out there.)
I was excited for a moment until I saw it has a lipo battery which will be rendered useless the first time you forget to discharge it to the proper storage voltage. Lipo is a terrible choice for this type of technology.
