Slow Internet is a vision of a more uplifting, leisurely and inspiring virtual life. Through three design principles and many concrete examples, this illustrated text presents a roadmap to reclaim the lost promise of the Internet.
A few years ago, Corin Ism and I started actively discussing what a better Internet could look like. An Internet at the right pace, with honest actors, and where things are intentional and in the service of the user. When we realised there was a lot of overlap between this and the slow movement (slow food etc.), we internally coined the term "Slow Internet" which then became central to our continued chats. It all crystallised more and more and, over time, led to an attempt to summarise the foundations of Slow Internet in a brief book.
That book is now available in online bookstores, and I invite you all to read it and contemplate – especially those of you who design, build, run and spread the websites that are increasingly becoming our worlds and homes. (In the spirit of the project, the book only exists in physical format.)
Slow Internet is just one aspect of a much larger cluster of ideas on future societies that Corin has worked on and written about for many years and that, starting with Slow Internet, will now start to see the light of day through numerous books, essays, articles, films, and more.
