SUPER interesting play on radio and podcasting. Traditional podcasting has never really been social (online). So many apps have tried to build a community around listening and sharing audio content, but none have taken off (Product Hunt podcasts included). Anchor and Bumpers are super interesting but still early. Eager to see how this plays out.

@rrhoover I use Product Hunt podcasts!
@rrhoover This is huge. 'FOCUS' is the only reason Facebook has beat twitter in 'social.' Had Jack Dorsey focussed on Twitter alone, we would have had far more superior products than Facebook from Twitter. Sigh. P.S. - This comes from someone who loves bootstrap and digits by twitter.

Anchor is fantastic at building a community around discovery @rrhoover. I've not found that same kind of benefit within the Facebook closed system. I think the persons who seek alternative communities will continue to seek them out whereas I predict Facebook Live Audio will simply be another tool in Fb's wheelhouse. →Not game-changing though.

@rrhoover concerning the last part of your comment, it is not early but it is the way you approach marketing the need for voice sharing

Facebook testing out LIVE Audio! Essentially, Facebook Live but with no video - Similar in this space is Unmute "Over the next few weeks, we’ll be testing Live Audio with several partners, including BBC World Service, LBC, Harper Collins, and authors Adam Grant and Britt Bennett. Early next year, we plan to make this new format more broadly available to publishers and people." Facebook is on 🔥 with new launches recently Messenger Camera and Messenger Group Chats

Podcasting is one of the most intimate medium I know. It's literally in your ears. That would be a great addition since I don't do Live or watch Facebook Live that often.
sri
With live video broadcasts, why do we need audio broadcasts? I don't get it? Anyone?
Andreas Duess
@sridhar_kondoji totally different tools. Audio requires far less attention than video and can be listened to while doing other things - like driving, for example.

@sridhar_kondoji @andreasduess You're going to miss out a lot if you do that..that's like saying "Read the text in this book, but don't look at the diagrams!"
Pierre Abdel Karim
@sridhar_kondoji Voice sharing pushes your imagination when listening, that is an extremely important point to consider!
sri
@pierreakarim I agree with u on that point. But is this the only reason for audio medium to still continue to exist?
Pierre Abdel Karim
@sridhar_kondoji when you are shooting a video, your eyes are either on the cam or your mind is on the cam (how do i look? How am i acting? Will they like me?), but when recording a voice your eyes roll and you don't know where to look, then you notice yourself speaking what is on your mind and the big load of "how do i look" disappears, you start to be more human, more "how do i sound" pops up and your voice starts to contain better content. Also another important point to mention is you can use audio whenever you have access to a microphone, but video cannot be used if you don't have access to a mirror or makeup (to check how you look). Also another important point is that video needs your full attention when watching and if you skip few seconds you feel that you missed it all, voice is lighter, i agree that you can listen without watching but your mind still attracts you to watch instead of pushing you to imagine and create!

we've been playing around in this space at audiopilot for a short while. fb's connections with publishers will be a great integration (possibly), as ap is more of a personal assistant in the car solution.

Looks like this is going to be the future of Podcasts.

Just take off the word "LIVE" and that's what I want! Make audio a first-class citizen.

A new way to make podcasts?
