Stolen is one of the funnest games/social apps/Twitter-thing I've experienced in a while. Give yourself an hour when you first log in -- it's addicting π
Was great seeing the product develop over the last few weeks, congrats in the launch @Blader and the @GetStolen team!
@nivo0o0@blader@GetStolen This is super addictive, and I've been waiting to hop on board this train since I saw the PH team members playing with it over the last few weeks :) Setup is easy, and even though I'm not much into games generally, this is one I'm fairly sure will eat up a lot of my free time for the next month. Would love to see a Twitter desktop integration so I can play it there as well.
I've been on Stolen for a short while now. It's addictive and fun and kind of pointless. I'm very curious what the real replay value will be once it opens up to more users...
@chrismessina - Initially I thought the same exact thing, especially when this type of game was launched on another social platform, Tagged.com, years ago. It's surprisingly pretty successful (Note I worked at Tagged years before this game was launched so I have no insider info, this is based purely on watching the products placement & engagement on my own account). Considering that Stolen's CEO, Siqi Chen, has Zynga in his experience portfolio, I think they've got a decent shot at making something out of this; probably not used by mainstream techies -- but there are markets for this that are willing to pay real cash for virtual coin.
I'll post 200 new @GetStolen codes over here and on the ProductHuntTeam Snapchat at 10pm PST π» (same time for both)

@yoavanaki I find it most fun to find a "target", usually a friend whose behavior I can predict, and start messing with them for a bit π
Say, I know they want to keep somebody in their collection, so I will try and steal them from that friend as often as possibleπ
@saniul@yoavanaki Also noteworthy, games free online poker, also need to invest in building sinks into the games economy. For example, Zynga poker has a hand helper that shows you the % likelihood you'll win a hand given publicly available card data. You only pay a small fee if you win the hand.
This helps to reduce inflation. Smartly, Stolen! already had a few sinks like comments and nicknames. They could start making the nickname prices dynamic based on the cost of the person being nicknamed; high value users require more sinked coin to create a nickname. This wouldn't directly make the cost of celebrities go down, but indirectly it reduces the wallet of people who invest in them.
Why wouldn't this be built as a website instead of a native app? You could reach so many more people. Curious what made the native approach your choice.
This is amazing. Addictive and fun..although I wish I understood what drives the point system better. Seems somewhat random now. Can you shed any light @saniul
@abe_storey Profiles that are in your collection generate coins over time β you can see the piles of coins on their cards, which you can tap to collect.
I used Stolen a lot for like 4 days but eventually stealing someone, having someone steal them back became a familiar pattern and I lost interest. But seriously, try this just for the fun UX. Great work.
I really like the idea of the categories section that is coming soon, however, I only found out by accidentally swiping. When it's launched I'd make it more visible so users know there's a menu. :)
Also, do you see this game as progressing into an avenue for users to find new people of interest to follow on Twitter?
on-boarding could be better IMHO, more obvious "buy" button would help ... i pressed stuff to see what happened and was able to buy and sell but wasn't that intuitive to me -- looks like fun though as I get more into it. Look forward to improvements!
Stolen starts off as a game, but over time, it can be an interesting collection of people. In a way, it can be like Pinterest, but instead of web content, you collect your favorite people from Twitter, in a meaningful way.
It's one of the most refreshing product concepts I've seen recently. I've been watching @blader@saniul and the team hack Stolen together from scratch. Their speed of execution, and thoughtfulness behind each interaction element in Stolen, have been a huge inspiration for me as a maker. Cheers!!
Why is the value of everyone's profile dropping? Is it because more profiles are entering the market but not enough players are getting in to bid up these new profiles? Dropping market values keeps people from buying anything.
Agree with almost everyone here. Very addictive. The physical mechanics of the UI are actually part of the addiction. The last time I was this addicted to a new app, was Secret. I just hope (and believe) that the Stolen team can manage their product direction better, and still keep it interesting when it's no longer "new"
The app is buggy/ broken. It's insanely addictive, but it completely misses massive sales so even if you only make profitable moves you bleed money. I had 950,000 last night and am now around 600,000 even though my only losses shown are less than 10,000.
So yeah, it ignores large numbers trading hands, unless it's a feature to not get anything back on high value people...
@blader@mikefarrell this is getting silly, I just had 500,000 outright disappear. Nobody I've purchased is worth near that, and nobody in my collection is above 5 figures...
@blader@akshaybharwani I'm curious, but I'll have to wait for the Android version to try it out. It sounds fun, and I wonder if it draws on the fascination that me as a kid and a bunch of friends had on collecting soccer trading 'cards' [in our case they were stickers] that then were used to build a neat and complete booklet [hence the 'sticker feature'].
