Thanks for hunting us @davemcclure! Hey PH! We’re excited to show you Shelf. Let’s say you’re shopping for a new digital SLR camera. You could spend hours online doing research and reading reviews, or you could ask that friend who knows the most about cameras to share their experiences with you and get a recommendation you trust. Shelf is a place to discover great products with people who actually use them. Follow your friends on Shelf and talk about their product experiences (good and bad). You can also get a quick inventory of your things (optional and private) by syncing your email receipts or Amazon orders. View your inventory by category, store, or price and easily sell your stuff on popular marketplaces. Check it out and let us know what feedback you have! Check out our shelves: http://shelf.com/adriana, http://shelf.com/chris, http://shelf.com/cindy, and http://shelf.com/dayo

I was an early Shelf user (and am an investor). Super service where I can see all of my online purchases.

I love that you call out a bunch of value propositions and don't explicitly message about identifying through material objects. Still, I found myself viewing this like a Goodreads or Last.fm for products, both of which I end up using to express my identity, evaluate compatibility with other people, and envy in others' taste. That comparison to Goodreads/Last.fm bodes well for market success! "Discover products your friends love" is the value proposition that hit strongest for me, but not enough to activate.

@joshbenjamin thanks for the feedback!

Looks great! If and when are you planning to add support for ex US, ie international sites like UK Amazon.co.uk (for email and account sync)?
Chris Kline
Thanks @sandersaar! Supporting international retailer and foreign currency is on our roadmap. If we end up with a lot of users wanting this support, we will definitely bump it up in priority. Cheers, Chris

@cklone @sandersaar Oh no. I guess you can add me to the list of users who requested for this feature. If it helps, I'm from India.

Shelf's ability to catalogue all of my products with pretty much no work from my end is really impressive. I connected my Gmail and Amazon accounts (which took all of two seconds) and they pretty pretty much instantly did a flawless job of importing, categorizing, and organizing all of the stuff I bought. I also was able to quickly import something that I bought in person (an xbox game I got at GameStop) by just pasting in a URL. I'm hoping that more of my friends start to use this so that we can rely on each other for product recommendations instead of hunting for reviews, etc.

@siegeleddie glad to hear you had a good experience! Loved seeing your Arnold collection on Shelf :)

The really cool thing about Shelf is the e-receipt automation, and how easy it is to add products to your inventory. Other personal inventory apps require user pics or manual data upload and have a ton of friction, which is why I no longer use them. I find Shelf super useful primarily because it is so simple to onboard and get started. Everyone can have a personal inventory on Shelf with just a few clicks. Pretty amazing tech here. Great job.
Dayo Esho
@kevrmoore thanks! glad to hear it was easy for you get started. thanks for the support!

nice idea. the amazon sync though could be smoother
Chris Kline
@ourielohayon appreciate the feedback. We agree that the flow could be smoother for that. Was there something in particular that was confusing?
Ouriel Ohayon
@cklone i actually did not understand that i had to download a report from amazon and then upload it again.
Chris Kline
that’s really helpful @ourielohayon. We’re are working to make the Amazon sync smoother and more intuitive. Thanks for trying it out!

love Shelf so far! I've already used it to see what books my friends have read and got recommendations on my next read.

Now I know what to do with all the gadgets that have piled up over the years... And the amount spent on them...

I have been using Shelf since the very early days and it has been a great experience. I love the evolution of the product to share my product knowledge with friends and vice versa. Go team Shelf!

@carnet thanks for the support!

My wife and I love this product! Verified owners reviewing stuff they use --> bringing the power of Amazon-like reviews to the rest of the web.
Dayo Esho

What has changed about the idea since the landing page first appeared in 2014 and now?
Dayo Esho
@rigadoohaus thanks for noticing! Our launch today is an extension of the work we started in 2014. Back then we started out testing out the idea with limited tech (supporting only a handful of online stores), and Shelf didn’t offer the ability to share product experiences. With today’s launch we support over 50 stores, allow Amazon sync, have a more robust private inventory (you can sort by category/year/store), and allow you to sell your stuff on popular marketplaces.
Chris Oslund
Really like the Amazon/Gmail integration as a way to populate the list! Made it super easy to get started. Also shout out to your design team! Love the minimalist, clean design. This does remind me a bit of http://kit.com/, what do you guys think is your major differentiator? Is it, allowing the user to sell their products?
Dayo Esho
@eighttwo_three thanks for the kind words! We know some of the folks at kit and have a lot of respect for them. We think the difference lies in your private inventory on Shelf. A large portion of our users tell us that they're reminded of things they forgot they had, which leads them to share product experiences they wouldn't have otherwise. Also, your inventory is created using our sync technology, which means the product experiences shared on shelf are from verified purchases. Finally, like you mentioned, Shelf users can easily get rid of things they no longer need.

Loved beta testing this product! Excited to see everyone else gain value and money like I have :)
