This is actually pretty useful!
Imagine this as a online presence app where you get bubbles for everyone in your distributed team, that would be pretty cool.
@bentossell Sounds crazy simple, I know, but you'd be surprised how useful it is to be able to see yourself from your menubar. Any time you might think you have something stuck in your teeth, or maybe check your hair if it's particularly wild, Pearl is always there to see your reflection π΅π½. It's simple straightforward and 100% free :) also taking any requests for new features!
@jshchnz fair enough! I'm not sure I've felt that need so much but obviously others (you incl) have!
If I was to need to see myself I'd probs just use my camera on my phone as I'm never with my mac without phone next to me...thats me tho!
@bentossell Completely understand, but you should give it a try! Much faster than picking up your phone and opening up the camera, literally only a tap in the menubar π€πΌ
@jshchnz yeh im sure for peeps who need/often want to do it, will be easier. but thats what Im saying... for me, its not something I regularly need to do
I love love love little well-implemented single-purpose tools like this. It's the type of stuff that got me excited about software when I was young. Well done!
Hi Product Hunt, just wanted to share our new little free menubar app! We always wanted a quick and easy way to see our reflection without taking the time to open clunky Photo Booth or other video apps. Pearl is a super lightweight menubar app thatβll let you see yourself in just a tap of an icon, itβs made our lives easier and we hope it makes yours easier too!
It's such a nice and simple idea.
Did you try also to position the window at the center of the screen in order to be as close as possible from the camera? It would give even more the impression to look at a mirror since your gaze would be straigth.
I understand of course that it is more intuitive to have it appear just next to the Menu bar icon but I think an animation to move the window from the icon to the center of the screen could be nice and would also make the time to initialise the camera less jarring.
Keep up with the good work!
Product Hunt
