This is pretty cool.
One of my best productivity hacks was modifying my apple settings to make screenshotting shortcuts easier.
Apple>Preferences>Keyboard>Shortcuts
Change all of the 3 button shortcuts to 2 button shortcuts.
4x productivity increase in screenshot sharing.
I was about to ask "Why are you different from Quickshot?", then I realized you are the same people :D
So, my question is: I already bought quickshot, why should I upgrade (and pay another 10 bucks) for Screenie?
You can paste screenshots directly into a lot of programs. Maybe people don't realize the many screenshot - keyboard shortcuts and modifiers that MacOS has?
For example, ⌘ + shift + 4 gets you a cursor you can drag and save a screenshot that saves to your desktop. If you add the control key to that it copies the screenshot, and then you can paste it into apps like iMessage, Messenger, Slack, JIRA, Preview etc. Adding the spacebar switches from a dragging screenshot to a camera icon that you can click on any window to get a screenshot for the whole window.
Using 3 instead of 4 gets you full screen screenshots, and again using the control key copies the screenshot instead of saving it to the desktop.
@shimmb Yeah, I was trying to understand what the advantage of this app is and why it is being upvoted so much; Especially at a cost of $9.99 and the fact that I can do almost anything this can do using the built-in features of the OS...
You can also change where screenshots are saved and the file format using some Terminal commands.
I still don't see what the appeal of this app is.
I always forget the keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot on the mac. It would be nice if clicking the icon would also give the option to take a screenshot (unless it already does this, haven't tried yet)
This seems like it could improve workflow and I appreciate your discount for Product Hunters. That being said, a price point of $9.99 seems hefty. How did you reach you reach this price point?
Hi Product Hunt! We really appreciate your feedback and are always looking at ways to improve our product and our pricing structure! We're glad you like Screenie and we want you to be able to see how awesome it really is, so type in "PH" for 90% off to get the app for just 99¢!
Quite misleading to have a "download" button with no prices shown and then give the user a $9.99 paywall afterwards. Otherwise seems like a nice product.
@peedutuisk Sorry that you thought it was misleading, we absolutely never intended that! We love Product Hunt and want you guys to love the app too! For ProductHunt only we're giving you guys 90% off with the offer code "PH" on our site, keep giving us your feedback we love it!
@ohadaviv@peedutuisk Sorry, this is definitely not supposed to happen, it was a problem with the overlay provided by our payment service. We've already fixed it on the site, and made the overlay appear like it's actually supposed to and the close button work correctly. Thanks so much for noticing that, we appreciate your feedback!
@jshchnz Kudos, Josh. I actually rediscovered Screenie when I saw the Pearl app featured today, thought about how many screenshots I take at work and decided to buy this. Then I looked for a promo code in this thread and found my own dismissive comment. I'm a changed man ;) Just purchased it.
It seems many of these apps are all missing one feature or another that would make them perfect - I like Droplr for annotations (faster to get to annotation and share than Skitch), but I can't use my own storage or a service like s3 for my files. I like Infinit, but they don't offer a built-in annotator. I like Skitch, but it's a pretty big clunky app for what it does. Screenie seems to solve the organization problem that dropbox's built-in screenshot tool offers, but for $10. If Screenie offered light annotations and link generation for sharing (which I prefer to just copying the image to my clipboard), then there would be a reason to adopt.
Otherwise, you could just use the built-in Mac screenshot modifiers and a tool like Hazel for putting your screenshots where you want them.
From a design standpoint, Screenie is what I expect in a Mac app - lightweight and following Apple's design cues.
@ddulic92 We're glad you like Screenie and want to check it out, it really is a powerful tool and will revolutionize your workflow if you take lots of screenshots. We want you to be able to see how awesome it really is, so type in "PH" for 90% off to get the app for just 99¢!
I just purchased the tool. But does not it allow me to send screenshots taken into clipboard ? It supports only those screenshots that are taken as a file? If not, pretty useless.
Nice simple idea, but is there really value here at $9.99? I'm not sure that pricing model is right when with a couple of extra clicks I can do the same for free
When your call to action button on the landing page shows "download", people intuitively regard it as a free download that they can have a free tools. But when he/she click the button and find out that it is a tool for $9.99 (which nonobviously shown on the top right), most people will close the popup and leave. Not because your product is bad (actually it's quite good in description), but they feel that they do not get what they intended to get, which is a free download.
I would suggest changing the title of the button to "Get it for $9.99", so it's much clear and straightforward without any misunderstanding. (it's kind of you to offer a 90% off for Product Hunt user, but I'm suggesting for the long term sake, not just one time deal)
Great! I was looking for a solution for my screenshots last week... I used the PH coupon code at the checkout and I was able to buy it for $1. Can't go wrong with this app! Thank you Product Hunt and ThinkDev!
