Hello Product Hunters! I'm Roberto Gómez, founder of Scalar together with @dolea , and we are super happy to present you Scalar Insight. We firmly believe that the way you run your meetings is the way you run your entire organization. ⚙️ your company defaults to scheduling meetings without considering the implications, it's destined for unproductivity. At Scalar we are working in a revolutionary Meeting Operating System, and we are happy to release Insight as the perfect first step towards a better meeting culture, with more maker time and higher efficiency. You may even have seen that Shopify uses a functionality like Scalar Insight and is achieving great results in their year-long initiative of improving and reducing its company meetings. Let me present you some details and answers to common questions: 💻 Functionalities: Our Chrome extension offers a seamless experience, allowing you to instantly see the cost of each meeting right from the invite page and calendar view, enabling you to make informed decisions and optimize your valuable time. But it doesn't end there. Insight also provides a comprehensive dashboard, offering a bird's-eye view of your company's meeting statistics, including costs. 👀 Salary visibility: Yes! By using Scalar Insight you can deduct the salaries of your employees. That's why it is currently only meant for the CEO, HR and other execs with salary visibility. For the rest of the company we are working towards implementing very soon a new functionality so that employees won't see the cost but a bar and a comparable item. That way, they will get a very good sense of the impact of the meeting while maintaining salary privacy. 🏷️ Pricing: Scalar cost 20€/ month for the whole company or you can purchase a LifeTime Deal for 99€. We are offering a trial of 1 month, so you don't even need any credit card to start using the product! 🔌 Implementation: We connect with Google Calendar and your HR system (every major HR system is supported). Then you just have to invite others and download the Scalar Chrome extension. That's it, happy to answer any further questions down below. Share them, as well as your thoughts and feedback, and let's make every meeting count! 💪🗓️

@dolea based on feedback from @ricardo_luz, upvote this comment if you would want Scalar insight to be available for Outlook.
ILYA GALUSHIN
@dolea @roberjet Wow Roberto! Amazing product. I've been always thinking that each and every corporation needs it! So many boring and expensive meetings/calls. Great launch! Let's keep in touch
Daniel Olea
Hi ProductHunt! I am Daniel Olea, co-founder and CTO of Scalar. We are super excited with this launch. We have put a lot of love to bring you a quality tool to help you start the journey of a better, more efficient work environment, where meetings are a joy and not a burden Let us know what you think!
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@dolea @ilyagalushin Thanks Ilya, do you know any company that would want to use it or need it? Happy to talk :)
Thomas Seillan
@dolea @roberjet Congrats on the launch. I get the need for CEOs and people with salary visibility to use such a tool but I understand less how Scalar Insight on its own can change meeting culture. I'm looking forward to your next moves though in hope it does answer this question. I've had my fair share of bad meeting culture both as employee and as co-founder and would welcome anything that helps fight this.
Gary Sztajnman
Congrats! Great product! Can you talk about data privacy? Is the team @ScalarOS able to access information about my business (including salary)? @roberjet
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@scalaros @gary159 Hi Gary! Sure. Obviously the product needs the salary and meeting data, as it is mainly the core of it, so this is something that we have put a lot of effort into, as we believe it's what separates this from being a nice idea to being a real useful product for companies. First of all, we have focused on protecting salary privacy. You can only invite now employees with salary visibility and even if you download the extension and your company has Scalar Insight, you will have to be invited by the admin for you to see real meeting cost. For those without salary visibility, we are close to launch a new functionality by which they can be invited but will only be able to see a Expensive /Moderate /Affordable bar plus a comparable item (e.g., a plane ticket from X to Y) so that they get a sense of the meeting cost. Finally, we have put a lot into data security. Our CTO @dolea is the former CTO and co-founder of Cobee, a HR benefit SaaS which manages thousands of HR related records (salary, health information etc.) and the company has never had any breach, so we have in place the same measures to safeguard the privacy of our clients: encripted PII, security certified vendors only, encription at rest and at transit, least-priviledge access policies, mandatory 2FA etc. Specifically regarding salaries, that information is of course encripted. On top of that, we give you the option to upload a CSV instead of connecting to your HR system, so you have full control with what you share (some clients for instance, decide to upload publicly available hourly rates, instead of actual salaries, so that is up to you).
Gary Sztajnman
@roberjet Thanks for the answer. Sounds like you implemented a lot of security features. Lastly, are you allowed to share my company's personal data (like salaries) with 3rd parties?
Daniel Olea
@roberjet @gary159 Hi Gary! Thanks! We take security very seriously indeed. Answering your question, we cannot share that information with anyone, we are compelled by EU privacy laws, Google API Services User Data Policy (required to get the approval from google to use their APIs) and our own privacy policy.
Ajinkya Bhat | Notion X Startups
I love the concept of Scalar Insight! I run a startup and I feel most meetings are unnecessary, or have too many people who need not really be there- they could really be doing something that actually moves the needle! Showing the monetary cost is a super useful insight- and hopefully by considering these implications teams use asynchronous communication modes more often! (We sometimes use Looms for example).
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@ajinkya_bhat Hi Ajinkya. We think as well that is a very useful insight to change the habit of scheduling meetings for everything. Hope you can try it and give us feedback so that we help your startup improve. Best!
Randall Kaplan
@ajinkya_bhat Like you, I feel like it is difficult to weigh the true value of a meeting and make that is expressly stated in the minds of my employees. Using this monetary "Opportunity Cost" approach to understanding how time is valued in the high-intensity startup world will certainly make productivity more relevant in the minds of my employees. This product is a neat way to illustrate the value of time as an asset to my interns! Congrats on a great idea, Roberto.
André J
Does it attach more cost to video meetings? I feel they drain more than IRL meetings 😬
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@sentry_co Hi André. No, but we are starting to understand this in different ways. First, by asking for feedback and measuring meeting fatigue. Second, by understanding the context of the meeting (day of the week, hour of the day, number of other meetings that day, remote or not etc.) so that we understand what are the best ways to meet per person and per company. We are including these in our main product, Scalar OS.
André J
@roberjet Maybe also look at latency. I'm more drained from my LA - EU meetings. As the latency breaks up flow. So you have to spend a lot of mental capacity timing when to say things. Making the meetings more monologues. And less "fast pace" "get in to it" "ping pong style" aka more efficient.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@sentry_co interesting. I guess you are based in EU and so the meetings with LA happen for you very late and thus you are tired?
André J
@roberjet Its the same with meetings in Asia. Latency makes the video call more like "Roger that .... over style convo" Asian meetings are usually early. and LA meetings are late, near midnight. But it's after workout so my mental energy is usually replenished. So it's not tiredness. in my experience. You just have to try harder on video calls than IRL. Esp if you're trying to win a client etc. 😅
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@sentry_co hmm, will be interested to look at that with data. Like correlate the feedback of the meeting with the location of each attendee, as well as measure talk time and lenght per attendee in this high latency call to see if its less collaborative.
@roberjet and @dolea, kudos on creating such a helpful tool! I wonder if there are plans to integrate with other calendar platforms like Outlook or Apple Calendar in the future?
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@dolea @ricardo_luz Hi Ricardo, thanks for the comment. Outlook is definitely on the roadmap, but Apple Calendar is not for the time being. Do you use Apple Calendar for work? Best,
Andrei Costea
Nice! Does it work with any video-conferencing software?
Daniel Olea
@andrei_costea2 Thanks Andrei! Currently you can see the cost directly on the calendar (Google Calendar, MS Outlook coming soon), are you interested in seeing the cost directly on the video conference?
Namrata Arya
Was quite fascinated by how Shopify is doing exactly this in order to increase productivity. It’s great to have access to a tool that does exactly that
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@namrata_arya thanks Namrata. Do you know any company that may be interested? Best, Roberto
Hamza Q
Congratulations on the launch. This is a fantastic product! It looks like this begins with CEOs and Exec Leadership. Anecdotally, I know most meeting time wastage is with my colleagues in an enterprise corporate. Would this also make a strong starting use case?
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@hamza_q4 Hi Hamza, definitely corporates are a very good target for this. It is, however, very difficult to reach them. If you know someone who would like to try it, we can think about an affiliate program. What do you think?
Peter Johnson
Congrats on the launch! 🎉 No more meetings for a meeting! Fingers crossed for the continued high demand to see this extended onto MS Outlook 🙏
Bud Broesky
😂 what started off as a meme on linkedin turned into an actually super helpful product 🔥
Daniel Olea
@budb Thanks Bud! Yeah it was a good inspiration 🚀 We included some changes to make it more convenient for companies, like HR system integration and coming soon, an option for those who cannot have access to salaries
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@budb haha we really liked it, of course. Many still think something like this it's not possible to be implemented, but I think what separates the meme from the actual real product is the focus we have put into salary privacy and data integration. It is right now very easy and safe to do it, so that you can reap the benefits of it.
Congratulations of the launch. A much needed extension!
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@stepan_cherkasov thanks Stepan! Do you think it will be helpful for you at Clustr? How many are you now?
Rohit Joshi
Congrats team on the launch! Its an Innovative way to help people track the cost of their meetings and get a better understanding of their company's meeting landscape.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@rohitjoshi thanks Rohit!
Grant Meglis
Nice! Is there a possibility to add salaries of attendees manually and visualize the cost of a meeting? Or is integration with an HR system a requirement? This would be an interesting entry level offering.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@grantmeglis Hi Grant, sure! You can either connect the HR system or upload a CSV with the data that you want, so no, to connect the HR system is not a requirement although we believe its easier and we support all major HR systems.
Kartike Bansal
Amazing idea! Great product!! Congrats on the launch 🚀 In my last company, my team and I were often occupied with meetings and we didn't get much time left for the actual work. To tackle those meetings, my manager came up with a nice solution, no meeting on Thursdays. Your solution is even better 💪. Kudos to you and your team for bringing this idea to execution. This will help many organizations in scheduling meetings more effectively.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@kraten hi Kartike, thanks! We had the same in our last company! Actually we support this in our main product at ScalarOS.com. You can define meeting guidelines or policies such as no meetings on Tuesday or no meetings before 11am, no meetings without agenda etc. and then as employees create the meeting, they are reminded of the policies and you can see data about the impact of those policies.
Zefanya Injilia Putri Eman @ 123RF
I am quite amazed! Especially on how it is trying to spread the awareness about this, magnificent!
Rajtilak Bhattacharjee
Bite-sized extension which packs a punch. Very useful.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@rajtilakjee haha love it!
What an impressive product! Outstanding job on its creation. I adore it!
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@amber_gardener thanks Amber!
Justin Johnson
Great idea and smart way to keep team efficiency high. I like the "similar to a flight...", really puts it in perspective! What are the levers besides salary? Or is that the primary means of calculating the cost of the meeting?
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@justin_govy Hi Justin. Right now is only salary. At Scalar OS we are starting to understand other hidden costs such as breaking the maker flow of someone, the context switching costs or increasing its meeting fatigue and leaving them less productive for the rest of the day
Tomáš Blaťák
How exact do you count cost of meetings ?
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@tomas_blatak1 Hi Tomas, its just a matter of taking into account the attendees, their salary per minute and the duration of the meeting.
Arbaaz
Congrats on the launch. Interesting!!!
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@arbaazio Thanks Arbaaz. Do you want to try it?
Arbaaz
@roberjet I use https://www.neeto.com/neetocal to schedule my calls. It might not work for me.
Roberto Gómez - Scalar.so
@arbaazio yeah unfortunately we only support Google Calendar right now
