Rutter 2.0 — The universal API for ecommerce

What kind of actions can you do across all platforms? Looks like you can get/set inventory and have some access over payments. Are there other things? What does the "embedded checkout plugin" hook into? What if I wanted to write, say, a plugin across platforms? What is universally available? Thanks.

Hey PH! 👋, We did an alpha launch of Rutter back in February and are super pumped to show you the new APIs and features we've built as well as open up the platform to the community! Rutter is a uniform way to interact with store data across most of the major ecommerce platforms out there. Just like how Plaid makes it easy for fintech companies to get bank transactions from any bank, we make it easy for e-commerce companies to read and write orders, products, and customers from any storefront. We built our schema for products, orders, and customers to be abstractable across all the ecommerce platforms, which means you don't need to worry about native integrations or intricacies between platforms. Our data fetching engine under the hood ensures that you get real-time, up to date data from any store, and we even send out webhooks on data changes so that you can more easily keep up-to-date on your merchants. It's been extremely humbling to see the amazing products that our makers push out with Rutter, from building embedded dropshipping plugins to livestream selling to better lending and financing applications to personalization and retargeting platforms to embedded checkout experiences. We're at the beginning of the ecommerce tooling cambrian explosion, and there's still so much more to build for merchants and retailers. Our mission is to enable the next generation of ecommerce experiences, and we're constantly wowed by the creativeness of ecommerce tools that people build on top of Rutter. Amazing progress! Plaid for ecommerce makes a lot of sense as the industry matures and people need data for financing, selling merch multi-platform, etc

We are building a support tool that helps companies connect with their customers on WhatsApp, This can help us bring data from different commerce platforms right into our dashboard without any hassle. Can't wait to try it out!

Incredible-looking product, I am excited to see what people make with this. One small feedback - I live in Germany and I saw some negative association with the logo at around 75% through the animation. Good luck with the launch

I feel like Rutter addresses the dire need for centralized APIs for online commerce, whereas at present devs/online business owners have to manage something like 5 or 6 API keys to link several different platforms. If you look in the docs, all you really need is one public token (to get an access token) then list all the supported platforms listed as enums. We’re using Rutter for our ecommerce app and boy do they deliver. Rutter works like magic. I’ve never looked at an Etsy or Bigcommerce documentation page yet our app works on these platforms out of the box. Using low level platform APIs are a thing of the past. It’s a huge unlock for us as we’re now able to service merchants on platforms we otherwise wouldn’t have the time to build for. And it gives us a competitive advantage by increasing our addressable market beyond the platforms we have time to build for. Anyone building platform specific apps is missing out. Very excited to see what’s in store for Rutter!

This looks amazing! The potential here is HUGE - especially given that we’re transitioning to a post-COVID world where online shopping and e-commerce is exploding in importance. Great to see a unified API coming through to navigate the multitude of online shopping websites. Excited to use this!
