Hello Product Hunters! I am very excited to introduce Ritt, the tag-centric file manager. Tags are excellent for managing images, videos and documents, yet most file managers implement tagging functionalities as an afterthought. Not so with Ritt. Ritt is an acronym for Representation of Independent Tag Trees. As the name suggests, tags are front and center in Ritt. Ritt is designed to allow for fast and efficient batch tagging of files (and folders). Drill down to your desired files by intersecting and/or excluding tags. Other features include: - Sync tags across machines - Advanced search by combining tags using logical operations - Create links and backlinks between local files and folders - Auto Tag image files with AI - Powerful built-in previewer, hover over video to scrub - Create tasks within folders If you have any comments or suggestions for new features, please do not hesitate to let me know!

"With our dedicated cloud service, your tags and tasks are synced across different devices" Hmm... so the app is creating its own proprietary tags in-app, and not handling the built-in exif tags. No bueno.

@vicky_buddie Thanks for the comment. There are three main reasons why Ritt does not use the file metadata tag field: 1. Not all file formats support it. In fact, most don't. 2. Retrieving by tags will be slow if you have to search through your entire collection of files. 3. It makes editing tags (rename, delete) time-consuming since you have to rewrite the metadata of all tagged files. I fully understand and agree with the desire not to be locked into a proprietary database format and potentially lose control of your tags. That is why our database is simply an SQLite file with a well-documented structure (https://docs.ritt.app/database-f...) and we provide several ways to export your tags should you wish to do so.

Hi Xiaoye! Ritt sounds amazing! The tag-centric approach seems very efficient. How does the AI auto-tagging for image files work? Also, can you explain a bit more about how the syncing tags across machines feature functions? Congrats on the launch!

AI auto tag uses the CLIP model under the hood to calculate the similarity between images and tag names Check out this blog post for more details: https://blog.ritt.app/auto-tag-i... Ritt remembers tags by storing the relative path between tagged files and "Source folders", which are root folders within Ritt, in a database.
