ReferCodes — See your friends’ referral codes and share your own

Wish friends would use your referral codes when signing up for new services but don’t want to spam everyone on Facebook? Curious what services your friends use?

ReferCodes lets you put your referral codes for popular services (Uber, Airbnb, Coinbase, etc.) all in one place (with a nice short URL, e.g. refer.codes/jeff) and helps friends find them.

Neat Idea! Quick question: Say in Australia, our Uber codes are different than the US codes (as in the offering is different). Is there a way to 'edit' the deal so it applies to countries outside Australia, rather than simply having the default option for US?
Jeff Bowen
@richard_liu1 Great question. Would love to get that working. For now, the most helpful thing you could do is paste your referral link in the search box on ReferCodes. That way I'll be able to reserach the Uber Australia deal, try to get it added, and can notify you once I do.

Ha! I see myself using this as I maintain a long list of cool services and app referrals on Dropbox Paper. This is neat and clean. Btw, consider adding Amazon (with multiple country support), DigitalOcean, Honey etc. to the list of supported services. Feature requests- Easily embeddable code for blogs/ posts and allow us to edit profile pic/ details.
Jeff Bowen
@binoyxj Thanks! Great ideas and service suggestions. Adding them to my list. Would love to see your Dropbox Paper list if you're willing to share (maybe message it to http://m.me/refercodesapp?).
Binoy Xavier Joy
@jeffbowen Not sure if I can share, it's a mess with personal notes in it. Btw, I've already shared many cool websites via search and Messenger. So, consider adding them pro-actively.
Jeff Bowen
@binoyxj No worries. Yeah, I've got a big list of services to start adding once I get a couple more features in. Stay tuned. Thanks!

Great idea, but having some difficulty getting the website to work. Getting "Server Error (500)" whenever I try to click on a company to see the referral codes. This happens after I logged in with facebook. Happy hunting!
Jeff Bowen
@thesameerk Whoops! Thanks for letting me know! Fixed it. It was a weird edge case bug.
Jeff Bowen
@thesameerk Whoops! Just realized it was in fact two separate bugs. Just fixed the second one. Now it should actually be fixed. Sorry!

Happy to see a service like this one available to everybody. Indeed, I used to build something similar on my own website or via an Airtable Spreadsheet but this domain and the design both look very cool! However, the Facebook login/signup is a real bummer as I do not want an account with them. Can you at least provide Twitter signup? Thanks :)
Jeff Bowen
@juliens_me Thanks! Sorry. Yeah, I’d love to add Twitter login down the road.

Suggestions: Adding the link to the referral page to get your link for each site would help the onboarding process tremendously. Some of the entries ask for a code, some ask for a link. Should this be consistent?
Jeff Bowen
@etc Great suggestion. That’s high on my list. I’ve actually been keeping track of those links as I’ve added the services so it won’t take too long to add when I get to it. Some services use codes, some use links, and some use both. For now, the easiest way to add most is to just paste your referral link in the search box (as opposed to using the “Add your referral link/code” link). Check out the GIF (last screenshot) here on Product Hunt for a demo. I do need to make that feature more discoverable. Also, as I add more services I’m learning what styles (code/link/code and link) are most used.
Jeff Bowen
@etc FYI, there are now instructions on where to find your referral code/link for each service and several include direct links to the page where you can find it. Just choose the "Add your referral code/link" link on the page of the service you'd like to add. Should massively speed up onboarding. I've got a few more onboarding optimizations coming soon.

Really cool idea. Two thoughts: 1) Are you looking to expand to other social networks? I don't have FB and it sucks not being able to sign-up. Twitter would be great. 2) Do you think there's any risk of Uber etc getting wise to this and trying to shut you down?
Jeff Bowen
@mulhollandtweet Thanks for the feedback! I do hope to add some alternative sign up options soon. Getting started FB-only made sense for simplicity and help make sure that people easily found their friends. I don’t think Uber or anyone would want to shut this down as it helps people discover their service *and* shows them which friends are already using it which seems it would majorly lower the barrier to signing up. It’s really no different than sharing your referral code/link on Facebook or Twitter (which they encourage). ReferCodes is just helping make them more discoverable. You already can search “uber referral code” on Facebook or Twitter and find several. On ReferCodes, it’s clear that each referral code is someone’s personal code and not masquerading as a generic sign up offer.
Jeff Bowen
Very much a work in progress. Would love to hear your feedback as well as what services you’d like to see added. I’m working on adding several more. It’s actually been surprising to see just how many services use referral codes/links these days.
Caleb Sylvest
@jeffbowen very cool idea. Simple, yet effective. What's the plan for expanding affiliate Services available?
Jeff Bowen
@calebsylvest Thanks! For now, it’s just seeing which services people most want added (from links pasted in the search box and from PH/Facebook/Twitter discussion) and adding a few features to support some of the edge cases I’ve discovered in how certain services do their referral links/codes.
Ryan Negri
@jeffbowen Other ways to create an account on the horizon?
Jeff Bowen
@ryannegri Yep. Getting started (and for simplicity), Facebook made the most sense so that everyone has their friends there by default. Curious, what would be your preferred method and why?
Mike Jirout
@JeffBowen - we tried something similar with https://www.producthunt.com/post... - we had some great initial user-interest but the long-term vision wasn't really panning out over the first few months. We eventually retired the project. We have info on hundreds of referral programs. I'm happy to send over any assets that we have if you think it'll help. Best of luck!
Jeff Bowen
@mjirout Thanks for the info! Would love to see whatever you’re willing share. If you’d ever be down to hop on a call, let me know!
Mike Jirout
@jeffbowen - happy to share anything we have! At the very least, I have 100+ referral programs that may help.
Jeff Bowen
@mjirout Thanks!

Such an excellent idea. Really beneficial, both as a referrer and as a referree. ... Not to be confused with a referee. But I guess the guys in stripes could probably benefit from this, too.

Pros:

Easy to use. I like the simplicity of being able to paste in a code and have it auto-sorted.

Cons:

None.

Check out this cool project from Jeff Bowen. Your friends can use your referral code for a new service instead of a stranger's. I've also found it great for keeping all of my referral codes in one place. Basically, you win and your friends win.
Jeff Bowen
@dyah10 Thanks, Dominique! “You win and your friends win” +1 👍
Kyle McCollom

maybe my friends won't find my referral links as annoying anymore... ;)

Pros:

simple navigation, easy to add my codes

Cons:

none

Sudharsan Rajagopal
Really cool tool to keep track of referrals. Does this also include for the first time sign ups?
Jeff Bowen
@sudharsannr Sorry, not quite sure what you mean. Could you clarify? Most referral deals by their nature are only for first time sign ups if that's what you're asking.
Sudharsan Rajagopal
@jeffbowen What I meant was does this deal with some products that doesn't necessarily have to do with referrals but offer some incentives for first time sign-ups. For instance, 20% off a first time sign-up user.
Jeff Bowen
@sudharsannr Gotcha. Yeah, totally. Most of the deals added so far seem to give new users a straight dollar amount worth of credit, something free (1 month of premium, an extra life, etc.), or a percentage off their first purchase (e.g. Moo).
Calvin Chu
I've been meaning to build something like this - now I don't have to :)
Jeff Bowen
@calvinchu6 Was on my list for a while, too. Glad to save you the time! ;)
Dave Jux
This is so simple, smart, and effective. Can't wait to use it.
Marco Gurnari
I love the idea and the used font.. Great product 👍
