@milkers Thanks! Just like a FitBit or Apple Watch, the more feedback (measurement) that we have, the more likely we are to change things for the better.
@bmajz good question. I'll share how I personally use it:
- On a daily basis: are folks dominating standup, or are my 1-1s imbalanced? I actually found that the amount that I speak in my 1-1s is impacted by what meeting I had immediately before it. For me, there's some inertia in my operating mode/context that I have to consciously be aware of.
- On a weekly basis: with the collaboration tab, I see visually how much I'm meeting with each person and the tone of those conversations, so I can ask: does that feel right/intentional? If the volume of time spent is indicative of a problem, do I need to think about team allocation changes? It's easier than I expected to let my time investments get out of sync with priorities.
- On a monthly basis: what are my recurring meetings, how are they scoring, and if I cancelled any of them what would be the loss? It's sobering to think about, but if I can prune even an hour a month for my team that's a huge win. What if I can prune an hour a week? More?
@bmajz And on the other side of things:
As a member of a team that uses it, it has helped me recognize when I need to speak up more, and has encouraged much more intentional collaboration between my team.
Hi Product Hunters! 👋
I’m the co-founder and ceo of Read (https://www.read.ai), where we are focused on preventing meetings about meetings. We’re excited to announce the launch of Chief Meeting Officer, a suite of tools designed to help you and your team have fewer meetings with less attendees and better outcomes.

👩🔧Meet the Team🧑🏫
- Read Meeting Manager: Delivers personalized post-meeting analytics, collaboration insights, and coaching to improve your meetings over time.
- Read Executive Assistant: Joins meetings to ensure that meetings end on time with a live meeting timer, and those conversations are balanced with real-time talk time metrics.
- Read Meeting Navigator: An in-meeting dashboard helps you steer your meetings in a better direction in real-time by measuring meeting score, sentiment, engagement, and alerts.
💡How it Works
Read measures video conference calls by joining as an attendee and measuring audio and video in real-time to generate meeting metrics. After these aggregate metrics are generated for Chief Meeting Officer, Read automatically deletes the raw audio and video data.
✋The Problem the Chief Meeting Officer Solves
In the past six months, Read has measured over 3 million video conferencing minutes and learned that 1 in 5 meetings are bad.
➔ 51% of meetings go over schedule by at least a minute
➔ 31% of meeting start late resulting in an average delay of 3.3 minutes
➔ 21% of meeting scores are poor based on directly measuring meeting audio (speaker) and video (listener)
➔ 24% of participants in a meeting are disengaged (ex. multitasking, unfocused)
➔ 15% of meetings have negative sentiment (ex. annoyed, frustrated, confused)
➔ In meetings longer than 50 minutes, the number of disengaged participants
increases by 37% in the last quarter of the meeting compared to the first
@matthew_ritchie Thanks! In many different organizations I've been in meetings about too many meetings, which is the canary in the coal mine that something needs to change.
Hello! VP of engineering at Read here.
Here's my challenge: if you manage a team -- particularly one that's involved in product development -- you should add Read to your meetings for a month. See how your team feels when you announce that you want to cut back on ineffective meetings and respect their time more. See how quickly collective behavior can improve and accountability can increase. See how much more balanced your stand-ups and 1-1s can be. (And of course, report back with any feedback you have as a result!)
I've learned a lot about myself and my team over the last several months, and it's been fascinating. I'm happy to chat any time if folks have questions/comments/suggestions.
