Vaheh and I originally looked at ways of making a web 3 social media platform that rewarded creators. However we noticed a common trend - all the wallets we tested were unusable by regular people.
🤯 Among other things, 'mnemonic pass phrases' failed 100% in user tests - people didn't understand what they were, and - as you can imagine from the decades of experience of forcing credentials so complex that people have to write them down - people didn't store them securely.
💸 Next, funds transfer: the idea that an incorrectly pasted wallet address or a .sol name registered by the wrong person can mean you lose your money is a show stopper to ordinary people trusting crypto. Even experienced users send a small payment first. 😞
↔️ Likewise, existing wallets - even those 'made for humans' - focus on speculation - currency fluctuations and derivates - over practical use cases. There was no obvious way for regular users to just send USD to someone.
Crypto can and should be better than unforgiving apps, losing money, and getting rich quick.
That's why we're making Portal.
