We work with Pilot at AngelList Venture and use it to run payroll for contractors.
I’m excited about the partnership we have for AngelList Stack, where new companies will be automatically set up with Pilot so that they can hire internationally from day one.
My company Rainfactory is using Pilot for about 20 contractors in 5 countries, and I'm so thankful for the autopay features. It saves my team hours of onboarding and payments processing in various apps. Plus, it saves my contractors from costly exchange fees.
I pay over 100 contractors in 35 countries every month and this would be impossible without Pilot. Compared with other payroll tools, the pricing is very reasonable and they've continued improving the UI over the past year as we've used it.
I look forward to more features like W2 hiring in the future, but this is a fantastic tool for hiring contractors and international employees!
@karllhughes Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s been a pleasure to support you and the whole team and thank you for all the feedback shared within the last year :)
P.S. We have some exciting features launching in Q1 that I hope you’ll like
I'm very down for this. We have been using Deel @getarctype for this but the experience has been rough for the previous 2 months. We already use Pilot for bookeeping and as an ops person it appeals to me to use the same platform for everything.
My only hesitation is that I wonder if the same things that Deel struggles with (basically disconnects between their dashboard and what the actual EOR people in each country are doing) would be true of Pilot. But they've nailed the accounting experience so I bet they will nail this too.
@getarctype@everett_berry Pilot is an amazing product for bookkeeping, but we’re two different companies 😄 We’re pilot.co while the bookkeeping one is pilot.com. It doesn’t help that we both share the HQ addresses on the same street in San Francisco.
btw. There’s about 20 other companies named Pilot and a lot of actual airtplane pilots who adds as an employer on Linkedin. It’s not uncommon for companies to use both Pilots at the same time. One for bookkeeping and one for hiring their remote team.
Sorry to hear about the issues. I’m not sure what problems you experienced with Deel, but I’d be more than happy to show you how we approached building our software first EOR. For example here (https://pilot.co/blog/an-easier-...) is a sneak peak of our new onboarding flow that we recently launched. It addresses some of the common disconnect problems that we also experienced in the first days.
I believe we have more experience with EOR product. We launched this on the first day together with a support for hiring contractors, as we wanted to be as unbiased as possible when helping people to choose what’s the best option for them. We hired the first EOR employee in early 2019.
Happy to connect via email (staszek@pilot.co) and advise if the issues you experience are something we (or any other platform) could address.
Does Pilot support "hiring" "employees" who prefer to stay self-employed? For example, if those "employees" have residence in a low-tax country and want to keep it that way.
Hi @alex_lizogub
Yes! We’ve been supporting hiring and paying people as both full time employees and contractors from the first day.
We often organise webinars when we try to help companies and team members navigate the decision and learn what are the best practices. You can reach out to our team (through a chat on the page) and I’d be happy to invite to the next one.
Hello @anna_0x ! Thank you for your question.
We only support companies with US entity at the moment, however we support practically all the countries for their contractors and employees.
Focus on US based companies allowed us to create some great features that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. For example we can transfer the money in your name in a more compliant, secured, insured and faster way.
If your company doesn’t have a US entity yet, you can take a look at https://www.angellist.com/stack which is the easiest way to set it up online. We partnered with Angellist team to create a seamless integration between two products that we’ll be launching soon!
Pilot is a really great product that makes international hiring so much easier. Not an easy challenge. I also really love working with their team! Highly recommend :)
Congrats on the launch! As a startup CEO, I like how simple the platform is for managing contractors, plus getting built-in contracts for each geo. And our contractors really like their exchange rates when we pay through Pilot, so that's a major plus.
Nice meeting you @farokh_shahabi ! Thanks for the nice word :)
We’ll help your employees with all local taxes and withholdings. For your contractors we’ll walk them through preparing all the tax related paperwork (W8-BEN and W9 forms).
And at the beginning of the year we’ll help you prepare a 1099 form and even fill it online for you.
I have been using Pilot for several months now and it's been great. It does everything I need it to - onboards and signs up new team members with country-specific employment agreements, gets them hooked up to our payroll so they can get paid into their bank accounts (with team members in different countries), legal compliance, and gets them paid for their work. With a completely distributed team, with members located around the world, this platform has been very seamless.
Thanks @sama for hunting us! ❤️
Hi everyone, 👋
I’m Matt, one of the founders of Pilot.
When @kolarzowski and I started Pilot in 2017, we set out to create a more worldwide job market. Having had the opportunity to live in many countries throughout my life, I’ve seen first-hand how much your impact and opportunities in life depend on where you happen to be born or live. It always struck me as deeply unfair. Something we’ll look back on hundreds of years from now and think of as quaint at best, and discriminatory at worst.
In 2019, we launched our payroll, benefits and compliance platform—making hiring anywhere in the world as easy as a few clicks.
Fast-forward to today, we’re helping hundreds of companies hire employees and contractors in over 160 countries around the world, stay compliant, make sure that their employees are treated fairly, and have the same great experience getting paid regardless of where they live.
What does it mean in practice?
🌎 All of your employees and contractors, domestic and international, in one place. If you use a different platform for your W-2 payroll, you can easily connect it to Pilot.
📑 All legal and compliance taken care of. We automatically register you for taxes in different states across the U.S., we offer localized contractor agreements for other countries, or can act as the employer of record and take all liability to stay in line with local laws.
💴 Your team gets the best exchange rates and local payment options in the industry, including in traditionally difficult markets like Latin America. We’ve built Pilot from day 1 to work like regular payroll, meaning that if your pay date is Dec 15, you should have money in your account on Dec 15. Without having to juggle different wallets or initiate withdrawals.
🔎 You’ll always know what rules apply to your employees, what currency they’re getting paid in, and what documents we’re asking them to sign. We are strong believers in transparency (inside and outside of the company), and you should never be kept in the dark about your own team.
😍 We have an amazing team ready to support you all. Building any company is hard as it is, and building a remote one can be harder in many ways. We’re here to help. Our team is spread around the world, like many of you are, to make sure that we can always assist you and your team with any questions they may have.
I can’t wait to hear what you all think! We’ll be hanging out in the comments to answer any questions.
—Matt

@sama@kolarzowski@matid we're customers and Pilot has made it possible for us, as a small team to have a global workforce; we can focus on finding the best remote talent and not worry about where they are situated. The platform is easy to use and product velocity is high. Today we use Gusto for US and Pilot for international, but we are considering consolidating completely to Pilot!
