Hey Product Hunt! My name is Elias and I'm a software engineering student from Switzerland. During my studies, I often need to share files with others and previously used WeTransfer for this purpose. However, I became concerned about the privacy of my personal files when sharing with large companies. To address this issue, I developed Pingvin Share, a file sharing platform where you have full control over your files. With Pingvin Share, there are no file size restrictions and the platform is designed for ease of use, enabling you to quickly and effortlessly create a share. Additionally, Pingvin Share offers optionally a range of customization options, such as password protection, expiration dates, and visitor limits, to enhance the security of your shares. I'm always open to new feature suggestions and have already implemented many ideas from users in the past few months. Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts and suggestions with me :)

I don't know if it is the Sunday/week-end effect, but your project deserves definitely more votes! There are a lot of file-sharing services, but the value in your project is the transparency and self-hosting values, and I love that! The problem with self-hosting when you are in a remote place on earth, files take a long time for uploading/downloading. Do you have any idea how to tackle this issue? Bravo on the launch @generalxhd !

@steevep Thank you :) It was probably not the best idea to post the launch on Sunday evening. It's a really good point that you've mentioned. I think the only way would be that Pingvin Share allows multiple instances around the world and sync the shared files between the nodes.

@steevep I'm not sure if I could implement this by my own because I have zero experience between multi-instance sync. I think the biggest problem is the syncing of the files. But if there is someone that has experience in this area, I would love to work on that! If you want you can create a feature request on GitHub :)

Congratulations on launch! Your product looks great. I wonder what are the next steps for this project 😀 I bet something like file preview or developer api would be helpful addition?

@tgy Thanks :) There are several open suggestions we look into like custom branding, localization and enhancements to share options (https://github.com/stonith404/pi...). File preview is already implemented but a developer API is a really good suggestion. The API would be ready for developers but it needs better documentations.

Beautiful. I actually signed up with copilot for this exact reason but have had a range of issues with small and large files, its a beautiful app with huge potential but the small amount of features they currently have should be nailed. Thanks for making this.
