Since the pandemic, the world witnessed a historic shift in how we work. In reality however, this shift has been happening long before Covid-19.
Thanks to the significant leaps made in the digitisation of the workspace in recent years, working from anywhere quickly became a reality for many people.
In anticipation of this inevitable shift, I sought to provide, together with my business partner Jack Mardack, an opportunity for companies to hire otherwise untapped talent from around the globe in a seamless manner.
What we did not predict, however, was how rapid this shift would come along as a result of the pandemic. Since then, we realised just how important our mission was, and how much there is to do!
Consider this: an estimated 1.5 billion knowledge workers are coming into the workforce in the next 10 years, mostly from emerging economies, while in developed economies there are some 90 million jobs unfilled. This is where Oyster comes into play.

This is amazing! I used to work for a US company but I was being "hired" and paid by an intermediate who would take 30/40% of my hourly rate just because cross border hiring is considered to be something "hard" to do.
This product looks well thought, and it's definitely needed right now. I'm just curious to know if the fees wouldn't dissuade an employer from hiring internationally for instance. Unless the company has high revenues, I don't know if small and medium-sized ones could afford or be willing to spend $700 monthly, as we can see on picture 3. Am I wrong? So who is this product for?
@rubenwolff hey Ruben -- I can answer from my perspective. If you can afford to hire a remote employee and pay them a full time salary in their home country then the $700 justifies itself. Think of the alternative. The price is the same ballpark for all similar PEOs. I think this will work well till we are ready to hire a critical mass number of employees in that country.

Agree with @sumit that the typical cost of the alternatives is quite expensive and usually a good bit slower to hire and onboard
A couple other things worth noting on pricing:
- Price ranges depending on the risk of employing in that country and is either $399 or $699 (check out the full list here: oysterhr.com/country-availability).
- Plus we offer special discounts for lower salaries employees in emerging economies. We do that to incentivize companies to hire in emerging economies and not worry about cross border HR needs.
- Unlike other HR software, Oyster is a full stack offering that includes the actual employment, the compliance, and the payroll.
- We manage employment entities in over 90 countries so customers don't have to.

@william_gadsby_peet Hey Will! When we first launched Oyster last year, most of the work in hiring and payroll was being done manually whereas today, a lot of the work is automated with our tech (think contract generation, on boarding etc), with a lot more on the way!
