Awesome idea. Curious if Outsite can help broker sponsored trips from big brands. For example, Silicon Valley Bank spends a ton of money building relationships with their clients, even smaller stages startups, that they want to grow with. There are other companies like them with a budget to spend.

@rrhoover That's a good idea!! We have had companies sponsored some of our events but never a trip.

This looks awesome @manuthan! I left this as feedback in the signup form, but I'm putting it here for others to see: it would be really cool if you guys had a "best practices" guide or even a blog post about how to best structure a team retreat. We'll likely lean on our friends at Zapier for this when we plan the StackShare retreat, but it would be nice if you could do this as part of your service. Suggestions for team building activities, and even a list of what your customers have done (e.g. "Here's what Buffer's agenda looked like").

@yonasbe Yes just saw that. It's definetely something we can think about.

So excited to post Outsite for Retreats on PH. I first met the founder Emmanuel on a trip to their Tahoe lodge for a weekend of snowboarding. It's been incredible being a member ever since and staying at many of their locations from Tahoe to Santa Cruz to San Diego. The team retreats adds an extra function that I'll definitely use for my startup teams. Can't wait to be dreaming big again at an Outsite location.

This is one of the biggest market opportunity for remote work, I think. Sell planned retreats to startup teams and even bigger (tech) corps of scale like Google and Facebook. Make sure you can guarantee fast internet, a good work environment (e.g. proper desks, chairs etc.) , excellent entertainment/activities (e.g. surfing, hiking) and there's lots of companies who will jump in to buy this. In turn, they will use this as a giant perk to attract future employees. It's really fun to see this market crystalizing. There's been retreats, co-living spaces, and now retreats as a service. Nobody's sure what works, but everyone's trying!

@levelsio True words Peter. The challenge is to make those large companies staying longer than just a couple of days or getting out of their confort zones (resorts, conventional retreat venues). Startups are definetly more inclined to try this but sometimes lack resources.

Pumped for this! Several Buffer folks have taken advantage of Outsite before, and I think moving to an even more thoughtful experience with retreats will be huge. Personally, I've observed the need more and more for companies small and large to do an offsite somewhere that truly lets them connect with nature and isn't your traditional hotel setup!
Emmanuel Guisset
@leowid Thanks Leo! Keep doing those awesome retreats with Buffer!

Awesome team and product! I met both Tristan and Emmanuel on the Tahoe trip @writerpollock mentions which eventually led to @thefuelpanda participating in 500 startups.

Thanks for the love, everyone! It's been inspiring to see how Outsite not only energizes employees but also increases productivity, creativity and morale. We call it the company vacation your boss will love! Our blog is full of research and testimonials that support this phenomenon: http://outsite.co/blog

This is effing cool! Do you guys have any plans for South America?

This is amazing, I'm a big fan of traveling and working from remote and this is perfect for my team when we go to retreats, are you guys opening up any locations on the east coast?
Emmanuel Guisset
@adamkchew Nothing planned yet for East Coast but may be in some island nearby...
Emmanuel Guisset
When I started Outsite 18 months ago, I knew there was a need for more creative live/work spaces for remote workers like me. I quickly realized that companies and startups teams were also eager to get away from the city and get some work done but there was no real solution other than expensive hotels or unreliable vacation rentals. I want to thank startups like Snowshoe, Cloudpeeps and Buffer for the amazing feedback during/after their stay. Since then, we hosted teams from Linkedin, Google and Zynga. Now we make it turnkey for teams and companies to host work getaways as often as they desire. PH Exclusive: We are giving away a 15% discount on any team retreat booked today and 10% discount on any individual stay!!

@manuthan I remember a story (book/article?) about how a small ebay team was able to re-launch a new homepage ONLY because they went to some island to work on it (so all existing 'homepage managers' couldn't stop the project because it was stepping on their turf). Anybody know what I'm referring to? It would be a good example to pitch your service.
Emmanuel Guisset
@yvoschaap Let me research this!

I stayed for 2 months at Outsite's amazing Green House in Santa Cruz, which is sustainably build and has beautiful spacious interiors and 2 block from the ocean. Being a city person, living at Outsite's home for a while has completely changed my perspective on living just outside urban centers, closer to nature. The trick is that Outsite's brings together a great community of cool makers, entrepreneurs and creative people from different parts of the world. So you don't need to go into town to meet these people, they just come visit and stay at Outsite. Being away with a team is a great way to focus and get a sense of perspective- and being able to relax in the outdoor nearby is something cities can't really offer. Everyone should try it out.

Can't wait to try it!

We've spend some time at outsite Santa Cruz last month and I have to say the experience was beyond expectations. Sharing your work-life balance with others is so enriching. Emmanuel is someone truly inspiring and Britt will be your best friend within 10minutes, he did so much for us! Work, surf and great humans. Can't wait for my next stay!
