Tesla Semi — The safest, and most comfortable truck ever made

Featured
66

The Tesla Semi is the safest, most comfortable truck ever. Four independent motors provide maximum power and acceleration and require the lowest energy cost per mile.

It's stunning. P.S. The new Tesla Roadster is insane. https://www.producthunt.com/post...

@nivo0o0 I want a Tesla Semi RV. Self driving home/office :-)
Joshua Pinter
But still not absolute price, right? What does this thing cost? If a typical semi-truck costs about $100K - $150K and Tesla claims it saves $200K per year on fuel costs and your payback is 2 years, is the price tag $400,000?
Niv Dror
The #TeslaSemi will have a 500 mile battery range at maximum weight 😮
José Luis Fausto
@nivo0o0 How long does the battery last before it needs to be replaced? 100 million miles?
Mohammed Rafy
Normal people when Tesla launches a Car - Wow. 😻 Normal people when Tesla launcher a Truck - Wow. 😻 Now, this is like the same people will buy the truck as well. 😸😹

@rafyasarmatta you are right :D I also find that very amusing :D
Alfonso C. Betancort
@rafyasarmatta if they are produced with the announced specs nobody will need to sell them. They will sell themselves, if you are in the long haul highway cargo business either get them or pull out to the shoulder, you have been driven out of business. 😢

4 motors 0-60 in 5 seconds 0-60 in 20s with an 80,000lb load Super aerodynamic Up to 500 mile range 100 million miles guarantee Nuclear proof glass Cente-seated driver Comes in space gray $5000 for a reservation Production in 2019
Kai Gradert
@vamshi4001 I love the attention to nuclear proof glass.
David Berkowitz
@vamshi4001 @kaigradert but how do you test that?
James Whiteside
@vamshi4001 Hopefully the seat placement means better visibility Also, we will no longer be able to get in front of trucks easily as we do now with their slow acceleration. Oh well lol
Chris Frantz
But will it fit in the Boring tunnels? 😅
Lama Al Rajih
@frantzlight why would it need to?
Emmanuel A. Simon
@frantzlight @lamaalrajih hmmm... well lets see....automated + no emissions in tunnel + convoy shipping (better than diesel + rail) = a BAMF shipping network unparalleled by existing infrastructure. (my math is conservative at best) :). plus...who will regulate tunnel traffic... I'm assuming NOT the typical state troopers that operate surfaceside.
Lama Al Rajih
@frantzlight @uelsimon won't having it in the boring co tunnels require a bunch of restrictions regarding weight, etc?
Jack
When Elon mentioned the convoy cost savings I thought he'll announce that only the first truck will require a driver, while the others will follow driverless. At least until we reach full autonomy and we don't even need a driver leading the convoy.
Haroon
@thesocialjack pretty sure that’s what he meant?
Zach Dubos
I can't wait to see this on the highway. Meijer just bought 4. Edit: Walmart just bought 15! 2019 can’t come soon enough.
Ben Ingignieri
Everything about both vehicles is amazing. Simplicity in Design & packed with needed functionality...Elon my man! Damn! 🚚
Gregor Nobis
@ben_ingignieri Except for now they are prototypes with specs on paper, not products. Example: nobody in the industry knows how a 200kWh battery could possibly fit into the new Roadster (a while back Elon ruled out 100kWh for Model 3 because of its size).
Ishtiaq Rahman
Pro: Safer for the driver, passengers, other vehicles on the road, environment, feels like you're driving Optimus Prime, etc. Con: You can't justify buying one because you're not a trucker.
preston
i remember when this was apparently leaked a while back. i definitely want one of these things now. 😎
Vaclav Bedrich
Wow, 0-60 with up to 80,000 pounds load – 20 seconds, without load 0-60 is 5 seconds. 500 miles per charge with the max load and 65 mph highway speed!
James York
This has to be the best thing to happen to dirty white van industry ever. UK is on team! Now let’s generate power without melting lungs!!??
Sai 🚀
Let me be frank, I still drool at beautifully crafted trucks on road (more than cars). I am sure, won't be able to take my eyes of these Tesla Semi when these trucks are running on the roads in 2019! #teslasemi
Gregor Nobis
I don't see how this was a "launch" event. Both products are years away. Given Tesla's history of overpromising and underdelivering I am highly skeptical regarding the specs and the availability date. Taking into account a) the investments needed to make these products happen and b) the more and more challenging financial situation of the company - I wouldn't bet on Semi or Roadster ever hitting the road.
Alessandro Schiassi
@betonauspappe In fact it was called "Tesla Semi Unveil". And how exactly Tesla underdelivered any of its product?
Gregor Nobis
@alessandro_schiassi I was referring to PH calling it launch, I guess I didn’t make that clear. Examples for underdelivering in the past: product launches way behind the initial schedules, the solar roof tiles (sales so far: 0), quality and production issues with Model 3, self driving capabilities.
Rob L'Heureux
I don't want to drive a truck, even this one, but Tesla really nailed it on the core concerns of truck drivers. Electric motors are a great match for these heavier loads and have seemingly delivered a best-in-class product. I think this product will have a legacy beyond truckers though - I'll feel a lot safer driving alongside a Tesla semi than a diesel one.
vincent galan
« Most comfortable truck ever made ». It hasn’t been made yet. There is a lot of concern and doubt and concern among the community. This truck might never see the light of day.
Andrew Gill
Beautifully brilliant. However I feel collusion avoidance may be severely “tested” by competing non driverless semi drivers.
Jody Holmes

What are the environmental impacts of producing Tesla vehicles?

Pros:

Zero emissions

Cons:

Not

Ben Tossell
Pretty unfortunate name though....
Kirill Soloviev
@bentossell as a brand naming aficionado, I agree it's a tad disappointing - especially considering how powerful the names of Elon Musk's companies tend to be. we'd love to replicate his naming prowess in our upcoming AI-powered virtual naming consultant, but cloning the human brain into a computer still seems years away... 😩
