I've been using Opera Reborn for a week now and it doesn't feel like a quantum leap, but it is a decent primary browser. The sidebar is cool, but would be better if we could drag our own things over there as a shortcut. The VPN connection is a bit buggy and slow, but the battery saver is pretty awesome.

Congrats to the Opera design team for taking an experimental approach with the Opera Neon and shipping it with all its flaws - the Reborn is exactly what the name says.
Lovely UI and interaction, the onboarding is pretty nice and speed-wise, it's not that bad!

@perte I really thought nothing could drag me of my beloved Chrome. But I installed it today, and so far so good. Let's see how will it be long-term.
Really loving it! I was just going to test it out but I've found that I like it enough to give it a real try. Besides built-in VPN and ad-blocking, I like that they also have Opera Turbo (data saving) and battery saving features. Plus, it's really quite a beautiful, slick, and fast browser.
@amits510 Interestingly, I have been noticing significantly better overall performance with Opera than I was with Chrome.
@ignaty spot on. If you haven't already, check out Franz for combining several messenger apps into one.
@ignaty thanks for the tip – does it support the cmd-t shortcut from Slack? One of the very few things I miss using Franz.
@paljoakim sorry, no. IM+ and Franz both use web version and ⌘+T seems to be a desktop only option, but ⌘+K should work just fine.
@ignaty actually I created an issue on their bug tracker for developer version a while ago with this improvement. Don't know what happen with it tho'.
@paljoakim by having Slack I would totally move away from Franz, although there are some red flags here because of so many distractions that are now concentrated under one window - THE browser.
@alexstrafalogea I also enjoy having my Facebook pages' inboxes as separate tabs in Franz; doesn't seem to be a feature with Opera Reborn?
Looks good! But does it automatically import all my bookmarks/history/cookies from Chrome? I don't remember it asking me if it should do that, during installation!
Loving this so far, but how do you get the compact messenger view? Mine has the sidebar to the right with 'options', 'people', etc. Ends up looking very messy.

Pros:Fast, Built-in VPN and Ad Blocker, Supports Chrome Extensions
Cons:Lots of websites will tell you that you're on an unsupported browser.
It is such a great idea, I'm using it right now and the experience is really smooth and usefull. Thank you Opera 😎!
I'm loving this. I just wish I could change the Google search on Speed Dial to DuckDuckGo or remove it.
OK so this is not a browser, this is an IM and VPN client that can open links on the right side
@samjohnson__ there's no functionality missing for Opera Reborn to be a browser, it's just not so dedicated as other browsers are, personally I think a browser should just focus on requesting and rendering pages, it can offer APIs for developers to extend it's functionality, but it shouldn't ship these things (IM, VPN) on product level.
@novoreorx @samjohnson__ If it is just another browser, how can it attract users from other browsers?
Opera has always kicked ass by its own unique vision of UX and UI, and no doubt the messenger integration is a fantastic useful feature. What I am really surprised by is the fact that I can't change the position of the sidebar :)
It would be really great to be able to move the sidebar to the right side, dock it to the top, or the bottom of the window. I am personally annoyed by having it on the left all the time limiting the horizontal space.
