Noto is a modern writing app. With delightful interactions, powerful editing tools, and a beautiful design, Noto helps you capture the best of your everyday life.
It certainly looks great but what more does it offer compared to, say, Bear? Both are only available on iOS and macOS and have a pleasant, minimal design.
The problem with Notes apps that you can only use on one platform (in this case Apple's) is just that. Just like many other people/potential users, I have a Macbook and an Android phone. It makes no sense for people like me to use the Noto mac app, since we'd have no access to our notes on our phones. Same goes for people who have iPhones + Windows computers...
I know that developing for Apple and developing for other platforms are very different things, but these are my thoughts from the user's perspective. Perhaps you could hire somebody to make version of the apps for Android and Windows, provided of course that you believe there's a future in what you started with this very well-designed product.
Wish you luck in any case and note that I was not meaning to sound harsh in any way!
Not a fan of the unskippable intro video when you first open the app, versus a simple onboarding you can swipe through or just going straight into opening the app. Otherwise very fluid interface, flexible note features.
My initial hunch is that this is a substantive first version. It just "felt" right and I want to see where this goes so I jumped on the Lifetime license and will test mainly on my iPad and see if the Mac version is a go a well. Keep up this good work.
So what's the major difference from Notion?
I just moved all my notes from apply notes to Notion and Noto seems to be literally the same, but looks still more like notes.
Hey guys, thank you so much for the interest in Noto!
After discussing with my teammate. We decided to expand the lifetime license to mac so that you guys don't have to pay twice. That is going to delay the mac app release for a little bit more because we just had it implemented today. Will submit to Apple tomorrow and release after it is reviewed.
Note that the price of the lifetime license will increase when the mac version is released (targeting this Thursday, Oct 17th if we can get it reviewed in time). We will also introduce a monthly and a yearly subscription price along with trial periods.
The price will be:
$0.99 / month (3 days trial)
$9.99 / year (1 week trial)
$24.99 / lifetime
The price is higher than what it currently is because the license is shared across platform.
So if you want to get a lifetime license for both platform, now is the time to get it at 60% off the regular price!
This new update that we are submitting also contains:
* Various bug fixes.
* Fixed the crash when tapping "Support & Feedback" button when you don't have a mail account.
* Ability to add drawing attachment on iOS 13.0 and above
* Ability to skip intro video
* Ability to reduce animation (wobbly effect)
There might be bugs initially with the shared app purchase. If you don't see your license being synced to mac, please don't purchase another license. Contact us at feedback@noto.ink and we will sort it out. You might also need to restore your purchase on your iOS device when the app updates due to the purchase upgrade.
Thanks again.
This app is almost perfect. Really well done UX. My only complaint is the lack of low-friction new note creation. Currently takes multiple actions (swipe back to home screen, tap "new note" button).
If you could enable a quick-toggleable setting (from somewhere on the individual note view or at least on the home screen) to enable automatic new note creation, I'd never use another note app. For reference, see Drafts app's "Focus Mode" (https://www.macstories.net/revie...).
Another option (that would probably serve more people tbh) would be to add a widget that appears on long press to create a new note, along with other functions. Again, check out Drafts' implementation. This is still slightly more friction than Focus Mode however.
Thanks for your hard work!
Awesome app! Thinking about switching from Bear to Noto. Two bugs that I noticed:
- On iPad the tripple dot menu opens down out of bounds, so nothing can be selected
- While in dark mode, when you choose a code block language the suggestions are unreadable.
- On macOS I often use CMD + arrow keys to quickly navigate in text. However, Noto doesn't seem to support that.
Have you guys planning on adding markdown shortcuts?

Promising product. A first marriage between Macha v2 and Zoho Notes (but better). When will bigger fonts be offered? Body font @ 10pts is very small for me.
I don’t remember seeing any notes on sharing. How does this app handle sharing and what forms of sharing are curry available? When you share something, does it also share the pics, videos and attachments?
@haitianwatcher Right now we don't have a built in way to share or collaborate. There are however export options to export the note into text, PDF, HTML, or JPG. Noto stores your note content and attachments in a custom container, a `.noto` file, which is sharable. But right now you have to manually grab the file and send it, and ask your friends to store it inside their Noto's iCloud Drive folder to see it. In future we should be able to make this process very easy, allowing you to send via mail or messages, and the other person can open it right in their Noto app. markdown with attachment export is also in the work.
@luke_zhao Hello Luke, Thanks for the update. Can you include the option to open a link(s) from the Noto app. It would be awesome to be able to open a link with the option to select a browser ( Firefox, iPhone browser or Google)?
