@csergiu_ro Hi guys, congrats on the launch, the product sounds interesting and the execution seems to be in a great track! One question, what is the difference between custom masks and generated masks?
@marcbc Hi Marc! Thank you so much for your interest! So, generated masks are the ones that are created instantly in email fields on websites, by using the extension. The generated addresses cannot be changed by the user, they're just generated like that. Custom masks are created from our web app and you can name them however you want! Does that make it more clear or even more confusing? 😅
@csergiu_ro thanks Sergiu! It makes sense, now I get the difference: generated masks are fixed and created by the extension because they use the domain of the website they are created for.
My main concern was the value I could get from the service without using the extension. Installing the extension requires to grant read/write permission to all content I'm surfing, and while it might be convenient to create addresses on the spot with just one click, I might feel that this level of access to my data is just too much. Why shouldn't I be able to create a "custom mask" for a given service manually?
@marcbc Hi Marc, that's a really good point. I feel like this is an issue with how extensions work, because you can't do cool things in websites with an extension without requiring the user access. If you try looking at the permissions of other extensions, even big ones, mostly all of them require that level of access. A friend of mine has done a test about this and tried sending keystrokes from a test extension to a server and it worked, so if you wanted to you could steal users information like passwords, usernames, etc. it's really scary, but it seems like this is how extensions work and we can't do anything about it at the moment, only maybe flag the dangerous ones somehow or report them.
We plan on adding the ability to create custom masks manually from the extension too, in the future, so that users won't have this concern anymore :)
Hi everyone!
This is my first ever launch so I hope nothing goes wrong! 😅
Spam is still a thing. We built Ninja Masker to try and prevent it. Spam is like a disease, it's better to prevent than to cure. Ninja Masker lets you generate single purpose email masks that forward all incoming emails to your personal account. It helps you become anonymous, protect your inbox, get rid of spam more easily and it lets you have more free time.
Don't regret giving away your personal email address, use a mask instead.
📜 The Story
This tool was built mainly out of my frustrations with sleazy marketing practices. Whenever a new spam email landed in my inbox, I knew that someone traded or bought my address and was using it for sending me totally irrelevant offers. Whether it was that Nigerian prince we all know about, or a promo code for an AliExpress drop shipping website, none of them were worth my time. So I decided to build a tool to generate a random email address for every form that I’m submitting online, that will forward all emails to my personal email address.
We set out to create a quick prototype and in a few weeks we had it. It was incredibly challenging as both of us had full-time jobs and we were exhausted all day. But it was worth it as it proved to be really useful! No longer did I have to fear giving out my email address to random websites, I could just click the generate button and I had a fully functioning email address right there in the input!
Our plan at first was to create a quick prototype, ask for feedback, polish it and launch it and then keep improving it. But then an unfortunate family event occurred that benched us for almost half a year. Now, we’ve finished the first polished version of Ninja Masker and we’re really excited to share it with you, PH gang! We really hope you’ll like it and if it proves to be useful, please let us know as you’ll probably make our day! 😺

The way we see it, we would have two available packages: Free which will include all the current features and Pro which will include some more advanced ones.
To celebrate our launch on Product Hunt, we want to offer something to the community, so, everyone who signs up TODAY will receive a FREE 1 Month Pro package as soon as we release it 🎉
