We believe that creating NFTs should be insanely simple and low cost for all. NFTMyImage is built by a small geographically distributed group of engineers on the Algorand blockchain.
This is a really slick service and I'm excited that it's making NFTs more accessible to everyday people.
I tried out NFT My Image myself the other week for fun, and it truly does make it possible to mint a NFT with virtually no crypto know-how in less than 30 seconds. I honestly think my parents could do it on their own, which is definitely saying something positive for the UX (of course, explaining what NFTs are to my parents and convincing them of the value of digital goods would take a lot longer :)
@kyleshank1 I would love to hear more of how you came up with this idea and some of the technical specifics on how you made creating + storing the NFTs on the blockchain so seamless. Congratulations on the launch!
@andygcook We got interested in Algorand as a proof-of-stake block chain and wanted to build something on it. We realized NFT minting was very complex, expensive and slow on Ethereum and thought to make an alternative. Algorand is fast with extremely low transaction fees so we decided to try to make the free and easy way to create NFTs.
The biggest challenge really was the user experience. In order to enable NFT creation for everyone we realized most wouldn't have an Algorand wallet so we built on Twitter identity to assign ownership of the NFT without a wallet. We pushed upload (drag/drop) forward as the first interaction to further expedite the process and ensured that experience also worked well on mobile. After upload we store the NFT on IPFS and then mint the NFT (Algorand Asset) on the blockchain. The blockchain transaction contains the Twitter ownership information and resides in a temporary wallet until the user decides to transfer it to their own Algorand wallet like Pera or many others.
Another hidden feature to make things frictionless when transferring to a wallet: we will automatically fund someones wallet with the nominal Algo requirement to hold NFTs if the user doesn't happen to have the balance required.
@minhistry Go to the permalink of your created NFT (you can always find them via the My NFTs menu item). Look for a button on the right sidebar or at the bottom of the page labeled "Start Transferring." Click on that button and follow the instructions. We use WalletConnect to easily transfer to your Algorand Wallet (Pera and others).
@kendallhtucker When the first generation of NFT marketplaces came out, it was pretty cumbersome to make an NFT - you have to get a wallet, transfer money, convert it into crypto, then go through a lengthy signup process, all while needing to learn about a new technology. We wished there was a way to just drag and drop an image and have it become an NFT - it should just be that easy!
Kyle here, one of the creators of NFTMyImage. I know many of you may believe that NFTs are worthless, but we believe that they're just misunderstood - they shouldn't actually cost money, nor should the primary use case be for buying and selling.
We wanted to see what all of you would do if we could make NFTs go from taking $50+ to create and over 30 minutes of struggling with wallets, to completely free and instant.
You can make unlimited NFTs for FREE in less than 30 seconds, and we'd love for you to try it out and give us feedback.
So far we've had over 200 beta users use NFTMyImage for anything from selfies, dog pics, memorializing wedding pictures on the blockchain, gifts, donor mementos, meme copyrighting, and more.
We started with just images but now support multiple media formats including short videos (you can NFT your tiktoks!). We're considering more social integrations and some enterprise-use-case features next, but we'd love to hear from the PH community on what you'd like to see us build next.
Huge thanks to our hunter @chrismessina for his help and support in bringing NFTMyImage to Product Hunt!
@ramesh_kumar20 Our belief is that it's cost and time associated with using them, and enabling more people to easily experiment with myriad use cases. This was one of the motivations for building NFTMyImage :)
