Very cool! Are there any plans for this to be macOS compatible? @stevenmccloskey

@stevenmccloskey @ghundermark Yes! Many scientists and developers have requested macOS support as well. We will port Nanome over as soon as macOS supports VR hardware.

Looks pretty interest

I met Steve when Nanome was an art project in a VizArts lab at UCSD. Seeing this project come to fruition has piqued my interest in STEM and opens worlds of opportunity to future scientists. Great interfaces lower the barrier to entry in any field. Imagine if we only gave children access to chalk and pencil and expected all of them to become sculptors. Something similar is happening in STEM today, wherein even professionals rely on antiquated legacy tools like pen + paper of 2D mouse + keyboard interfaces.

Pros:

Accessible and entirely new.

Cons:

rate of VR adoption in schools AND workplaces

Hey there PH, Nanome started as an art project in the world's first Nanoengineering department. We wanted to create a tool that made nanoscale design not just visual, but intuitive— like Legos or Minecraft. Great scientists deserve great interfaces. No more chalkboards. Today, researchers, students, and educators use Nanome to explore, understand, and create at the nanoscale. Now, anyone with a VR headset can use Nanome to: * Import structures from online databases, like PDB and DrugBank * Modify molecules using the entire periodic table * Simulate minimization on molecular designs * Collaborate in shared rooms across the globe Nanome is compatible with all popular VR headsets and available for download on Steam, Oculus, and VivePort. Give it a try and tell us what you think! Thanks! Steve p.s. This is such a great way to make chemistry come alive 🔥 👩‍⚕️ 👨‍⚕️ 🔥 ! I can imagine great applications for education. Are there any plans to support portable VR headsets like Daydream and Gear VR?

@lanre__akin Hi Lanre. We couldn't agree more. Due to the low processing power of the current mobile VR headsets and lack of 6 degrees of freedom right now our efforts are mostly focused on the Rift and Vive. However, we are definitely a fan of more portable solutions and are excited to hear about any updates on the Oculus Santa Cruz today at OC5.
