native app using local AI to detect whenever your mouth is open, reminds you to close it and helps you build good breathing habits, available on macOS and Windows, 100% free
Hey guys!
I’m excited to share Mouthbreather, a little app I built over a weekend to tackle something that’s been bugging me for years: mouth breathing. I’ve tried everything: nose strips, mouth taping, you name it. They kind of worked but only while I was using them. I wanted a way to actually fix my bad habit.
So what is Mouthbreather?
It's a minimal electron app that uses a lightweight, local face detection AI to track whether your mouth is open or not.
It runs in the background and doesn't interfere with your normal workflows.
Here's a feature list (find out more on mouthbreather.app):
- Mouth Detection: It uses a local AI model to monitor your lips and let you know when your mouth is open. No cloud stuff, everything stays on your machine.
- Notifications: Get notified when you’re caught mouth breathing. Choose between sound alerts or a subtle notification.
- Always On: It runs quietly in the background, chilling in your menu bar, and gives a little flash when your mouth is open.
- Privacy First: No data leaves your device. Ever.
- Progress Tracking: Tracks streaks and mouth-breathing incidents so you can actually see your improvement over time.
- it's 100% free
I’ve been using this while gaming and working (on both Windows and Mac), and it’s honestly been a game changer for my breathing habits.
I’d love for you to try it out, and if you find bugs, have feedback, or want to suggest features, let me know!
Let me know what you think! 😊
