Money Over People is a straightforward and accessible way for voters to see if their elected representatives might be making policy decisions related to gun control based on who they’ve taken money from.
Great project to see from these three! A straightforward and accessible way for voters to see if their elected representatives might be making policy decisions related to gun control based on who they’ve taken money from.
While I’m fully behind the values that undergird this project, it should be stressed more heavily on the site that donations do not imply any quid pro quo favors. This is the very same wrongheaded set of assumptions — and pseudo-journalism — that got us into the mess we’re in nationally.
I love people adding transparency to politics. This is a great idea. However, why only the NRA? Why not track as many different lobbyists (is that the proper terms for organizations that donate? Please pardon my ignorance.) as possible? I get excited about these things, and then they always turn out to be hit pieces on the one organization that the maker dislikes.
You'd have my 100%, full, unabashed support if you added more than just the NRA.
@saevant here's the thing that makes me sad - I WANT TO SUPPORT THINGS LIKE THIS. Seriously. I wish I could share this and push it to my friends. I'm just so sick of the overwhelming bias that everyone pushes on their friends. Why not just display the facts (meaning both sides of the aisle, and all donors/lobbyists) and let people think and decide for themselves?
I'm all about people being able to say whatever they want, whether I agree with it or not. It just is depressing when builders use their abilities to push their perspectives instead of disseminating unbiased information.
*shrugs in depressed manner*
@johnrcreech Appreciate you checking out the product, and sharing your perspective. We shared data. We hope other people continue to make products for other groups and issues. Understanding how money flows to our elected representatives, and influences our politics is important for our democracy. We'd support any projects that aim to increase transparency for voters.
