Fun little iMessage app that creates little GIFs of your recent photos to share with friends:
Reminds me of that Auto Awesome feature in Google+, which is now in Google Photos, and now, in turn, Google Photos will let you convert Live Photos into GIFs. Momento is nice because it'll use any of your photos, not just Live Photos.
@chrismessina I just posted a similar sounding question trying to understand how this is different from Google Photos Assistant. Mind elaborating "it'll use any of your photos, not just live photos" please? - Thanks
@techtosterone@chrismessina Exactly! Using smart algorithm that finds photos with similar times I'm able to create cool animated GIFs for many photos and not only live photos.
@genadyo@chrismessina I still am hard pressed to understand how it is different from Google photos. Google Photos algorithm is also pretty darn smart. So they keyword "smart" doesn't do it for me. Google Photos Assistant creates gifs, movies, collages etc automatically on the fly as you take photos and videos (if that's what you're calling Live Photos); or you can feed it the older media to create for you.
@techtosterone Again, You can use a lot of tools to create GIFs. The magic here its done automatically inside iMessage without feeding manually anything.
I never saw someone looking into 3 years ago and manually creating GIFs just because he wants to send something inside iMessage - here you have all of them ready to go.
@genadyo I'm not familiar with iMessage. So, I guess it's very niche to it and iOS. Wish you the best. Cheers!
Just pasted the relevant line what I responded on my original question on our other conversation thread ;)
As an amateur photographer, I have a lot of experience with photography. Iβve been amazed to see just how many photos people take. One of the biggest challenges with having so many photos is that most people never have time to go back and revisit their memories.
Momento was invented to solve this exact problem. Momento automatically creates GIFs of your best moments right inside iMessage for you to easily share with family and friends.
This is really awesome! Would be even more awesome if it could scan a video and take out certain frames to make a gif. But still awesome as is. I have tons of photos that can need a touch of gif-ing :)
I must have had my head buried in the sand - or elsewhere - when this was first featured on PH. Very cool - love it! I just wish we had more stickers and fun stuff to customize the GIFs.
Just downloaded. Gonna play around and give you feedback after. Great idea though. Anything to mess around with Picts/Vids right before sharing is awesome.
Nice little idea. However, how is it different from Google Photos' "Assistant" - where I can just tell it to create an Animation or Movie or Gif or collage based on photos that I choose? I understand that this for iOS (iMessage), but isn't Google Photos available on iOS as well? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/...
So, what's the USP here?
@techtosterone Using smart algorithm that finds photos automagically I'm able to create cool animated GIFs for many photos without any input from the user.
@genadyo ok Thanks. But, how does the smart algorithm work? Google Photos Assistant does the same automatically as well on the fly as you take photos and videos; or you can feed it older media to create for you.
@techtosterone The idea here is not feeding anything, you just open the iMessage app and you see ALL your GIFs previewing live, just choose one and share.
@genadyo ok - I still can get my head around not comparing it with Google Photos because I don't have to feed anything to it either and can share directly via a multitude of apps. Anyway, I'm not familiar with iMessage. So, I guess it's very niche to it and iOS. Wish you the best. Cheers!
