Ladies and gentlepersons, I'm excited to introduce you to my personal bot, built by @esthercrawford and @WhydoiNot! Among simple things like learning about my background, my bot can also tell you about recent articles, podcasts, and interviews I've done; can share Foursquare tips I've left around the world; can teach you cocktail recipes I've posted to BarNotes; can schedule 1:1 chat time with me; and can request that I hunt a product for you on Product Hunt! This next evolution of Esther's EstherBot is a huge leap forward in demonstrating the very early potential of personal bots!
Ben Tossell
@chrismessina was only a matter of time until the botfather released his own bot! So what is this next version of personal bots all about then? What can we expect to see? You and I have had a few bot conversations in the past and one thing I truly think is inevitable is the way people can tap into your personal bot to access all your social plugins. So for example, if I liked your nuzzel recommendations I could just get that without having to keep an eye on all your tweets, or even have to talk to you (no offence ha) If I liked snaps @andrewett posts to Snapchat, I could see that in one place. Someone elses instagram posts etc (I dont think im explaining this very well) But essentially, I think it gets to the point where there are too many separate social networks that I have to check every day and all the time to make sure I dont miss something. If I know I like reading your article recommendations, or Andrews snaps (but not his articles), then personal bots and accessing them is a huge opportunity Like I said, not explaining it very well but its pretty good in my head...honest.

@chrismessina loved the demo at Botness couple of weeks ago and seeing it live today is even more awesome. Working like a charm so far, great implementation :) How are you creating these bots at Olabot? Is everyone going to get a similar bot on messenger?
Esther Crawford
Hey PH! Essentially there are 3 problems I encountered with my last bot that I wanted to work on with this bot: #1 Invisible UI #2 Static content #3 Switching between live + automated responses I wrote about the behind-the-scenes story of how this bot came to be: https://medium.com/@EstherCrawfo...
Mark Krynsky
@bentossell @chrismessina @andrewett what you're describing sounds very familiar to Lifestreaming (an aggregate social network feed in reverse chronological order) which became popular ~2007. But perhaps you want a bot version that pulls from that dataset based on natural language queries?
Greg Cohn
@krynsky I was just about to comment that this brings up all the old debates we had about RSS vs proprietary/closed data sets for personal aggregation and republishing. I love the idea that a "bot is the new blog," in a way but hope important data sources won't get frozen out or cut off.

First thoughts: * I like the home-emoji idea (for getting back to the start). * I like the pro-active hints during the conversation of what can be done with the bot. * Overall still feels a bit repetitive and shallow. Similar to how first interactions with Siri felt. I guess if the interaction isn't what you expect 1 out of 10 times it is still frustrating enough to stop forming a habit. Anyone interested in personal bots should read Sandi's thoughts on the topic: https://chatbotsmagazine.com/i-b...

@__tosh it's tough to be both utilitarian and entertaining/fun. Who is finding a good balance here?

Cool! This is: 😳 🤔 & 😂 With words, for me a very great introduction to useful + funny personal bot 👏 Also the "request for a hunt" could be a highly demanded feature so great to see you included it. Is it possible to improve it, adding features for example? Also can you change its overall design or would you have to rebuild it from scratch? And also, did you create a moqup/storyboard to build it or there is one "standard" with olabot?

@matthieudeluze these are questions for @esthercrawford!

Hi @chrismessina , thanks for your follow up and again, congrats for this great bot 😀 Looking forward for answers from @esthercrawford. Have a wonderful Friday! Best Regards,

I've come across a few "personal" bots for influencers but this is easily the best use case of personal branding bot-style. Quite egotistical..I like it 😉

@esthercrawford @chrismessina this is the single greatest thing I have seen, I cant stop looking at the messinabot. "I need this now or I'll die" haven't felt like this since the iPhone was launched ! Has Messinabot ever issued a restraining order ?

Great Project. Love this concept and I can definitely see it as the inevitable future. Internet is here to bring us all together but with all the social media noise we sometimes lose track and more importantly time and sometimes end up more disconnected than ever. We need bots 100%!!!!!!!!

Wow! This is pretty cool! Allowing to choose between you and the bot as the first step is really interesting. The "contact a human" in many bots is often a backup, not a real choice. And this "Uber recommends", great idea! :)

This is such a fun and engaging personal bot! I feel like I just had a conversation with Chris and was able to learn more about him than if I had 5 minutes to chat with him. The "Hunt my product" offer is a nice touch :-)

Love it! Especially the emoji menu. Fun idea :) Just wondering - inside the Main Menu, Stuff I Like has ‘Favorite SF Spots’, ‘Good eat + drinks’, etc. Inside ‘Favorite SF Spots’ there are places to eat/drink, and other places that are just good to visit. And inside ‘Good eat + drinks’ you have food options (all from SF), but there’s also a card for ‘Awesome Spots’ where it doesn’t show anything to eat or drink. Is there a reason why it wasn’t organized as ‘Places to Eat + Drink in SF’ and ‘Awesome Spots’? (with the non-restaurant spots from Favorite SF Spots mixed in with Awesome Spots, of course).
Satwick
Absolutely love the food recommendations! Completely agree with the use case. Instead of scraping through your 4SQ profile, I got the info with just one query. This is awesome!

I've been testing a lot of different bots lately, and this has been one of the best. Clear, easy, simple, useful- and most of all no glitches.

Setting up a custom AI chatbot is so annoying. There are so many tools out there but they all seem to miss a feature that you REALLY need. Most times they all force you to pay to have that “Powered by….” imprint removed and AI doesn’t work. How about a done-for-you solution? These Chatifai guys set up a simple custom chatbot for just 19$/m in 72 hours after placing your order! 👉 https://chatifai.datawisepro.com/

Awesome personal bot, Chris! Clearly shows the potential and value of chatbots over webpages.
