Hey Product Hunters,
We're thrilled to be back on Product Hunt with an update on Microsoft Designer. It’s been six months since we last launched our preview with an early access waitlist, and today, we’re making Microsoft Designer available to everyone who wishes to create stunning designs with less effort and time.
We all have ideas that we’d love to turn into graphics for our social media and other everyday needs, but not all of us have the design skills to make that possible.
That’s why we built Microsoft Designer. To empower anyone to create stunning designs with ease, using the power of AI.
Here’s what’s new since the last announcement:
- Simply type in your ideas to get one-of-a-kind AI-generated images and design suggestions to meet your needs. Try “A retro post advertising our new summer clothing line” in Designer and see the magic for yourself.
- Make your designs dance by adding a tinge of motion. Try writing a prompt like “A post to say Happy Valentine’s Day with motion” and customize it according to your liking.
- Looking for the right text to emphasize your message in the design? Try the Generate experience in Text pane and get powerful suggestions using AI.
- Image generation got a big boost with much better images generated using DALL E.
- Looking for a catchy caption or hashtag? Type in a few ideas and choose a goal (like increasing engagement or driving awareness) to get AI-powered (using GPT) suggestions for the perfect message to pair with your design.
- You can also resize your designs or apply your brand colors and styles to make it your own.
- We’ve addressed 100+ bugs based on your early feedback to make your experience of designing super smooth.
Coming soon:
- Android and iOS apps to help you design while you’re on the go.
- Do more with your images by leveraging AI-powered tools and easily remove parts of an image or change the background to anything you can imagine and describe.
- More powerful brand tools so that all your designs speak the same language.
Thanks for your continued support and we’re looking forward to evolving Microsoft Designer along with all of you. :)

@mohit_anand1 I've been hearing a lot lately about teams working on AI-powered design tools, and I've seen many demos, but you guys have actually made it and it's usable. I tried it out and the UI is very clear and simple. Congrats!
@mohit_anand1 Congratulations on the launch! It's always exciting to see new design tools that can help with personal and professional design tasks. I appreciate the effort you've put into making Microsoft Designer accessible to everyone, regardless of their design skills. Good luck with your continued evolution! 🎉👏
Congrats on the launch @mohit_anand1 🚀
Nice product, I quickly played around with it and I was able to generate useful images in minutes :)
Best of luck with the launch!👏👏👏
It certainly looks interesting product from Microsoft. I have signed up and tried a few prompt. I liked the variety of images that it offers to choose from.
I am sure it is going to help non-designers quickly create graphics and motions for their web/social media posts.
Keep up the good work team Microsoft!
@mohit_anand1 The UI is slick and so easy to use. Congratulations on that.
One question though - Being in this space and having tried out Adobe Firefly and Canva Magic tools (and also Dall E and Stability and a few opensource tools), curious how do you plan to differentiate from these?
Most of these look so very similar in terms of end user value. What is it that you are betting on that will get you stickiness?
@rakesh1 We are going to keep our eyes on the customer work flows and make it even easier and delightful for them to create designs :)
If you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to share with me :)
@mohit_anand1 I tried it out months ago and this was my first time back. Right off the bat I'm just confused what the use cases are. There are templates, but they're all lumped together and I'm not sure what my options are or how to filter and search for inspiration. I generated an image, but the process of editing that image into a photograph was a struggle. Bummed I couldn't generate both text and images, but the animation is cool. Not being able to click the designer icon to get to a home screen is a tad stressful too. Overall I get it saves time in some places, but I still need to download each image to insert them into Word or PowerPoint. Right now the only thing that would make me switch over from Canva is it being integrated with other Microsoft apps, or the actual generated content being higher quality and more creative (but that doesn't seem like a Designer problem).
Maybe I'm just not the right type of user and I'm using it for something it's not meant for?
Now, as brutal as all that sounded (lol sorry)... I think it's actually alright. I couldn't bring myself to click away despite my ongoing frustrations, so that says something. Managed to make a nice mother's day card :)
@naomichao These are some great feedbacks, we will surely work on them and make the experience better. Keep on trying the product and share your thoughts with us. Looking forward to designs you create :)
@naomichao our goal is to integrate Designer into our ecosystem apps for sure!
Thanks for all the feedback - all feedback is good! We are so early and we have a long way to go :)
And yay for the Mother’s Day card!!
With so many similar apps out there, this one looks very very cool. The web version is a huge step forward especially if the browser is your main working tool. It is great to see how MS evolves.
@igorpavlov Yes, web apps are the future :) But our mobile version would be coming soon as well!
Let us know if you have any feedback on the product :)
Designer is a great tool for anyone who wants to create stunning designs with AI-powered suggestions. It's available as a web app and mobile versions are coming soon.
