Matador is a new app to grow your money by exploring, sharing, and discovering the stock market with your friends. They just launched with nearly $9M in early funding from Accel and Greycroft -- the same backers behind Venmo, Acorns, and Monzo.

Is this available outside of the US?
Jannick Malling
@luikohl We can only onboarding U.S. customers right now, unfortunately, but we have a fair share of requests outside of the U.S. and are working hard to see if we can make Matador available to people outside of the U.S. in a future not-too-far away :)

I've already found it helpful to get a sense of what others are doing with their stock market investments. It will be interesting to see if this remains helpful or at some point it becomes "too much information."

Pros:

Really sleek design and easy to use. Cool idea to make investing less scary and more social.

Cons:

I would like to see even more simple views of whether my investments have gone up or down. When I open the app with maybe a pop-up.

@Bernardamus
Cool app... put me in your mail list for when you plan to release an update that will allow people from Europe to join!

Hey, thanks for the hunt! After a year of building Matador in early development, we just launched a big re-design, a 2.5% interest offer and made it available to the general public. We built Matador to remove the scare-factor that prohibits most people from taking advantage of the stock market. With an average growth rate of almost 10% per year (measured over the last 100 years), we think the stock market is a great way to put your money to work. But every investing service is a solo-effort, where you're doing your own thing, in isolation. In an increasingly connected world, something felt off about that, so we decided to built a community-first investing platform that lets people share & invest, all under one roof. By offering 2.5% interest, unlimited no-fee investing in U.S. stocks & ETFs—and insights into what, when, and why friends & thought-leaders are investing in—we've tried to build the simplest, best way to grow your money. Looking forward to getting feedback and hearing what everyone thinks. ✌️ Quick FAQ: * 2.5% interest up to $10,000: All accounts are SIPC insured up to $500,000 in total (across securities and cash), with a max of $250,000 insurance on cash. For more details, please see https://www.sipc.org/for-investo.... (No need for multiple accounts, it's all just one account.) * Unlimited commission-free trading: We support over 9,000 U.S. stocks, ETFs and some ADRs (to invest in international stocks). * Community: We let people connect with friends as well as thought-leaders in certain themes (e.g. Gaming, Self-driving cars, etc.) and invite people with a limited-time-only Give/Get $20 referral program. * Deposits: We support instant deposits which lets you sign up, create an account and deposit cash in minutes, not days.

@malling Heads-up that your website is displaying LSEP characters in my Chrome browser which conflicts with some of the text.

Nice, looks pretty good. Can we get more info on that 2.5% -- what kind of account is it, and is it correct that this is SIPC-backed and not FDIC?
Leif Abraham
@kevinyun This is what @malling posted above: * 2.5% interest up to $10,000: All accounts are SIPC insured up to $500,000 in total (across securities and cash), with a max of $250,000 insurance on cash. For more details, please see https://www.sipc.org/for-investo.... (No need for multiple accounts, it's all just one account.)

Excited to try this out...looks very slick

Love this concept! I haven't been very involved in the stock market. The apps I've tried like eTrade or Robinhood don't get you set up and investing quickly enough. This seems like a good and enjoyable way get into the habit of trading.
Jannick Malling
@e_reder Thanks! Glad to have you onboard 🙏
Stan Bokov
Love the product! Sleek and easy to use
Justin Wilson
Logo looks like the Miami Open logo - same animation too.

Super excited about this! Never seen a simpler way to get your $$ working. What a great way to enable young investors.
Daniel Scrivner

Love it all around. Give it a try!

Pros:

Beautiful interface. Matador does a great job at surfacing interesting news and stock movements. Discovery tab is incredible.

Cons:

Getting approved to invest takes a bit of work, but that's pretty standard and due to SEC regulations.

Ansel Parikh
I like the social aspect that can help with idea generation, but as @emiliecole mentioned there's the potential for a lot of noise. Is there a way to measure credibility or actionability of information over time? It'd be interesting just to see how a stock has moved since a friend has posted a comment about it just to gauge the performance of her recommendations. Obviously not an immediate problem, but it could build higher quality engagement. Congrats on the raise!
Oliver Ginsburg

Support is really friendly!

Pros:

Social aspect is super helpful

Cons:

None

This application will go well for those who are closely connected with the exchange, but it is unlikely to help beginners. With a little knowledge and small amounts, it is better to play at https://duckdice.io There will be more chances for success. There will be more chances for success. I think so.
Greg Tobasso
