Hi everyone, happy to share what I’ve been working on for the past year. Mapme is a super simple publishing platform for map-based content. You can do all kinds of cool things with it, such as: crowdsource data, share stories, map your community, display locations or anything you want.
We’ve seen organizations, publishers, governments and individuals do incredible things with the platform so far; from crowdsourcing accessible locations in Canada, to mapping health centers in Zambia, to contextualizing lists of the top veggie places in Berlin.
Mapme started as a fun side project of mine while I was serving in the military. The original project was Mapped In Israel, a crowdsourced map of the Israeli tech ecosystem, which took off and became an awesome resource for the community. During my service I received hundreds of emails from people asking if I could help them create similar maps but of all kinds of different topics. Long story short, after I finished my army service, we built an awesome team around Jan '15, raised a round and started to grow our product.
As a first time founder I’ve learned a lot along the way, primarily by making mistakes. Making our experience more transparent has been a really enjoyable part of the journey.
We’ve made some our metrics public.Shared a list of everything I’ve learned in the past year.Published our fundraising deck.Built a unique team in an incredible country.
And hopefully plenty more to come.
Happy to answer any questions you may have. Always available by email, ben@mapme.com or Twitter
Congrats @benln for a beautiful product, it definitely seems like there's a real need for this!
What's next with Mapme? are you looking at making more sorts of content a part of the experience, on top of the maps?
Excited to see Mapme growth and achievements, keep it up!
@yoavush@benln +1 on the question. I'm really curious as to what's next, including if you plan to charge for anything at some point.
btw, we're happy users as well, mapping piano teachers across the US
Hello,
Is it possible to map out routes and leave commentary (such as date/time) for the specific route?
This will be ideal for people to arrange carpools (for school/work/rec./etc..)!
Ideally people could arrange pick-up and drop-off locations for their carpooling buddies!
I hope this was beneficial for you to read..
Best regards to your success!
Thanks,
Jaswinder Brar
I have been using MapMe since last April and i'm truly a massive fan. Not only of the great team that is there to help whenever i have a question or suggestion (which they're also open to) but the product has helped me to make my product turn into a real startup. Without the visualization of our Coffee community that the map bring, i don't think i could have made it what is it. It's simple to use, visually appealing and has so many functions that anyone can use it and it will come out with a different effect. We are using MapMe to make Discovering Coffee the yelp or tripadvisor of Coffee as well as building the community of coffee lovers so it's really been a dream product to use. Thanks to Ben and the amazing team who are all so welcoming to us! Anyone who wants to map out any sort of community or trip maybe should use this product over any others.
I've been using Pinterest Maps thus far to keep track of my geo-tagged stuff, and indeed your UI is very similar (only so many ways to juxtapose visuals & information on a map, I suppose!) I like the concept of categorized pins and all the advanced features you've added. Some questions:
1) Is there a way to import pins from Pinterest?
2) Will you be re-creating some of that functionality? For example:
- Pin via browser extension
- Show suggested images when a place is searched for
3) Do you plan to expand the types of fields you support?
Mapme is an awesome product that has helped my startup to grow through the ability to visualize my services for the target audience. What started out as a side project turned into something viable because of the ease of use and product features of the maps. Highly recommend using this product! Check out what we did with the map! http://www.discoveringcoffee.com/
Hi @benln - very great product I just created my own map! I would like to know if there is a directory of all the existing public map created by users? I am sure people already created amazing maps and I would like to look at these one and add mine in the list (as people can contribute to my maps too) thanks!
I love mapme, I've been using it to map out Jerusalem's tech community for the past few months - Mapme.com/JLM. At first it shocked everyone to find out how much action is happening around them that they weren't aware of, and gradually it became a reference and incredibly useful and valuable tool for our community including stakeholders and municipality officials - people refer to it every day to check locations of places, and find out what's around them. I think it's one product that has a chance to truly change what's possible for local communities if used in the right way. Mapme stories is a factory for good content. The Mapme team has been super helpful and responsive with support.
I had discovered Mapme about 1 year ago in beta version, I am very glad now at it is public available. We have started to create a map of startups in Turkey. http://mappedinturkey.com Thank you so much again..
Awesome product I actually used to build a product that was featured here a few months ago. Great job!
Quick question - what are the next features you have in mind for this platform?
Humm, now that I find this product my work calendar has to be rearranged! I will be busy building cool maps in the next few days:)) Just did one for the coworking spaces in Berlin, flawless! Thanks for building it!
Game changing product, built from a real need first solved brilliantly, gaining authentic traction then turned into a platform. A lesson for us all by the great Ben Lang.
I remember a few years ago I was on the market looking for a job, MapMe was just taking its first steps back then, it helped me to get the job I wanted. Today I use it to find customers, it's such a powerhouse, congrats to Ben and team, great job!
Hey Ben,
Great work. I'm especially impressed with the minimal latency I experience while using the product.
It's clear that the inherent value of this product is in the data created by your community. Can you share more about how you will scale the growth of new data added to the platform? Which customers are you targeting and how can the PH community help you accomplish this vision? Who are your most desired future customers?
I was wondering when we'd see Mapme here :)
Great product, I've been using MappedinIsrael as a resource from it's start (for finding companies, looking at job posts, or just getting to know our ecosystem); mapping really is a great way to visualize this sort of data. Looking forward to seeing how other companies will use it.
Good luck, Ben & team!
