I don't get this. Adding a chunky bit of hardware to your sleek MacBook is a bigger benefit than snapping in a magnetic charger?
Tristan Smith
@andreasduess The MagC is designed to replace the USB-C charging on the newest model of MacBooks. While many companies have sought to remake the MagSafe for USB-C, we thought it was about time we went beyond wires! Beyond that, as I'm sure you noticed on our campaign, the MagC is no bigger than a standard protective case for MacBooks. Thank you so much for your support!

@andreasduess, The MagC Wireless Case shouldn't really be "bulky". Its really no thicker than the hard-shell plastic cases sold on Apple.com ( Like these; https://www.apple.com/shop/mac/m... ). Regarding the "snapping in a magnetic charger", just like @hvllows said; it is gone -- phased out.

@tristan_smith1 Gotcha. This isn't a $140 pain point for me, especially with batteries lasting as long as they do now, but clearly, for others, it is. Best of luck with it all.

i’m lost: this still tethers me to a pad with a cable that i must bring along on travel, correct? and when doing so, it is in fact larger than a magsafe cord?
Tristan Smith
@passingnotes Thanks so much for your comment! Unfortunately yes, such is the state of contemporary wireless charging. As mentioned above in the comments, many airports, hotels, cafes, etc are jumping on wireless charging and with a strong following we'll be able to set up stations as well such that you won't have to carry it with you. Additionally, to clarify, the MagC is a replacement to USB-C charging not MagSafe (which Apple is slowly removing from their computers like they did the headphone jack with phones.) Thank you again for your support!

@tristan_smith1 i hear you - keep fighting the good fight! this kind of stuff will be everything in a few years

Great thing! And congrats to your successful campaign! (Which has an oddly low goal of a 1000 bugs?! Why?) Sadly your product won't be having a long shelf live as I am sure Apple will integrate this into future Mac's in (let me guess) not more than 3 years. Anyway: How long does it take to charge up my Macbook 13"?
Tristan Smith
@dominik_kugelmann Thank you so much for your support! Beyond Apple, only one laptop has integrated wireless charging, and that is technically a tablet with a keyboard attachment with wireless charging. Which means we are well ahead of the curve and if Apple's wireless charging timeline continues at this rate they'll likely release it after it has been integrated in many other systems. The first wireless charging phone was released in 2012, 5 years later apple launched wireless charging for iPhones. So there is a possibility even 3 years could be optimistic. Thank you again for your interest and support. What year/model 13" do you have?
Tangerine
@tristan_smith1 I have the late '16 model. and why have you chosen a so low goal?
Tristan Smith
@dominik_kugelmann Hey, sorry about the delay! We are able to charge your laptop from 0% to 100% 1.5x faster than you can charge your iPhone 8 Plus wirelessly. As for the low goal, we wanted to have this campaign be centered more around the stretch goals. This way the majority of the campaign time can be dedicated to getting backers even more! Thank you so much for your support!

Any research about wireless charging? We all know living next to an electrical substation is detrimental to health. With all the wireless electrical ions it’s bound to cause more health concerns. Thankfully this only affects those who follow trends, unless Apple pulls another “Courage” moment...
Tristan Smith
@androidlove Your concern is greatly appreciated! Fortunately, the extent to which any electromagnetic radiation can be harmful to people is minimal when it comes to Qi charging. Naturally, the first thing is that with our chargers the levels of EMF that we are dealing with are drastically less than that of a substation. Additionally, the low range on the Qi charging components we use keep any radiation from actively. To quote another example of Qi charging. "Electromagnetic radiation exists only in the immediate area of the Qi wireless charging station and only when a device is placed there. The release of electromagnetic rays is further reduced by additional shielding in the sending and receiving coils of the Qi standard." -http://www.qinside.biz/en/suppor... Love the idea! But it would be perfect if it was sold to cafes and businesses. That way, you wouldn't still be carrying a charger with you everywhere. You would just use the charge at the coffee place, work, etc.
Matt Hagner
@nonoghannam That's actually a really good vertical for this kind of technology. Hotels would also be a great business to sell to.
Nono Ghannam
@hagnerd I really like the hotel idea indeed! Especially if you would want to charge multiple devices while you sleep for example. I think MagC is a great idea. Good luck :)
Tristan Smith
@nonoghannam What an excellent idea! I know there are airports and the like incorporating Qi charging spaces for phones. But before we can establish a MagC infrastructure, we need to establish a user base. To do that, we need all of y'alls help! Thank you so much for your interest and support!
Matt MacPherson
@nonoghannam Depending on the coffee shop maybe. I’ve seen some in my city cover the plugs because people stay too long and take up space for otherwise paying customers.

I've bought so many things in KS, that didn't deliver or under-deliver their promises, that I'm not pre-ordering anything anymore, your product seems rad, and I would love to charge wireless, but I'll wait a couple years until Apple does it and offers guarantees and such, like with iPhone X, I remember buying a Qi charger for my iPhone, and it heated the iPhone up as it was a grill, lol

Super excited to have MagC Wireless hunted! Campaign was fully funded on Kickstarter in under an hour! (One of our prototypes is running on the 2016 MacBook Pro I am typing on right now!). Love the PH community!

Macbooks have some of the best battery life of any laptop and windows laptops have caught up as well. I rarely take my charger or plug it in unless I’m gaming, at home, or doing something power hungry. I don’t see this as a need for me or that many people. Not to mention it could shorten your battery lifespan with the constant spurts of charging. Now, if manufacturers built it into the machine, that’s another story.
