Macro is a customizable meeting interface built on top of Zoom, reimagined for collaboration and inclusive conversations. Same Zoom links, same people, same meetings - but now so much better.

The collaboration view alone is worth to the download, especially if you don't have a 2nd monitor. I'm not sure I need anything else!
Ankith Harathi
@coreyo we're big fans of that view too πŸ’―

?makers Great product! Any plan on supporting virtual backgrounds? It doesn't seem to work despite setting one up in the settings.
Ankith Harathi
@thelau this should be working! We're looking into it :)

Love it so far! Any plans to add meeting transcription :) ?

I'm honestly surprised this isn't #1 today - It's one of the best products I've used in a long time! Where so many players are looking reinvent the likes of Zoom/Slack/Chat/Video apps, I think the winners are products like Macro that make the existing winners in these spaces better. Nice work @aharathi and team!
Ankith Harathi
@matvogels comments like this make our day!! Thanks so much for the kind words. Let us know how we can make Macro even better for you.

@ashley_mw one of our top priorities! Excited to get you onboard soon.

Hi Ankith, Thanks fort sharing this new product, looks like a timely one, as many use Zoom these days. Will back soon. Keep going. All @ankith_harathi

Wonderful what you guys are building. Each one of my design workshops during the pandemic had a task for students to redesign Zoom for their use-case (classroom, family catchup) etc. Such cool ideas I've seen. I'm sure you're working on more formats other than discussion and collaboration. It would be interesting to see how you bring in AI capabilities to help with action items, questions for different formats of meetings.

DO NOT TRY THIS. I am on MacOS and here is my feedback. 1. My fan started blowing as soon as I started zoom call. I have an extremely powerful mac. 2. During the call, I just could not share my screen. I had given all permissions to the app. But it hijacked my zoom and I had to uninstall Macro in middle of the call to make this happen. Not cool.
Ankith Harathi
hey @aakash_barot, sorry to hear about that! Our app uses a wrapper on Zoom's native SDK and in our testing we show statistically similar CPU / memory utilization to the native Zoom client. For the screen share portion - did the host in the meeting have 'allow attendees to screen share' enabled?
Ash Barot
@aharathi It looks like a good product. Just that it was an embarrassing experience with the client and hence I ranted. I will download and try it again on weekend to ensure everything works as expected.
Ankith Harathi
@aakash_barot No worries at all, I completely understand. Meetings are important - especially with external clients. I'll check through the logs to make sure nothing out the ordinary happened and get to the bottom of this!

Haven't got around to testing this out. But just by the video & description two things stand out... 1) Airtime Map! I'll probably be the one talking the most on a call, so this keeps me in check! and 2) Outcome Automation with Google Doc. Wishing you guys all the best!
Ankith Harathi
@jpmartin Thanks Jose! Give a shout after you get to try it and let us know what you think

Great timing, excellent site, amazing concept. Onboarding is brutal though, but what can you do? That's the nature of granting permissions, signing in and so forth, so I get it. Really looking forward to trying this out. Looks great so far!
John Keck
@jaaaaarek we're looking at ways to shorten / tighten up the onboarding flow in the very near future (even though it is too late for you)! Would you rather give permissions all at once or in-app as the need pops up?
Jarek
@rjkeck2 As a first time user, I'd rather have them as needs come up. Without having any experience or context of the app, I think having them all come up first creates a bit of friction and frustration. I just wanted to play around with it, but I got so frustrated with all the onboarding tasks, I wasn't in the best state of mind when I finally got to try things out. If there was only 1 or 2 things to do, I would prefer them all in the beginning, but because there are so many things to do, it might be better to do them as they come up in this case. I also had to quit the app and restart it to grant some permissions, which could be frustrating for people trying it for the first time in an actual meeting (I just tried opening it on my own zoom room without any participants). Hope that helps.

πŸ‘‹πŸ˜ΈHey Product Hunt, I'm Ankith - one of the makers of Macro! We've been building Macro for the past ~6 months and are so excited to finally share it with you all today. We used the relatively new Zoom SDK as Macro's foundation, which allows us to wrap the entire Zoom experience within our app and completely control + customize the meeting UI without having to worry about audio/video infrastructure or scalability. We're launching Macro today with a few features that re-imagine the meeting interface for collaboration and inclusive conversations: πŸ”— Launch from the same Zoom links - any Zoom link you click will launch you right into the same meeting, now through Macro πŸ—ΊοΈ Airtime map - visualize in realtime the distribution of speaking time across participants in a meeting 🎨 Custom views - change Zoom's video UI to adapt to the style of meeting your having πŸ“ Outcomes - takes notes right in the meeting interface, categorized with shortcuts. Macro auto-creates a Google Doc in your Gdrive for every meeting and syncs all your notes in realtime to this doc thats instantly sharable with your team. More integrations coming soon! You can use Macro yourself, with your team still on normal Zoom - they don't need to switch. Best of all, Macro is free and available to everyone on macOS for download today. No waitlist. https://macro.io We're a small team of four, recently five, engineers who would love to hear your feedback on how we can make Macro, and your meetings, better. Thanks for reading! ✌️
Rudy Arconte
Great app, great vision! Is that possible to integrate Whereby instead of Zoom? I know Zoom is very popular but there are great alternatives out there. Kudos for your good work and stay safe!
Ankith Harathi
@westkast Rudy, thanks for the feedback. Right now we're fully integrated with Zoom, but more integrations are coming soon!
Rudy Arconte
@aharathi Thanks Ankith, hope you will take in consideration Whereby in your future integrations. This visioconferencing solution is so great, I use it with my partners and clients. It will be a level up and game changing.
Linus
This sounds exactly like what I've been looking for. Can't wait to try

@linusgeffarth if you're on macOS you can try it right away at https://macro.io!

I loved it, but it not appreciate my settings about disabling video and mic on start of meeting. It always connecting with mic and camera ON. Will love again after fix.

Keep up the great work!

Total game changer! LOVE how Macro helps spark spontaneous conversations across the team, especially during this remote work context
Devin Nash
Totally addicted to the air-time feature! Also, the 5 minute meeting countdown clock is a small feature but something I'd been looking for - really helpful.
Ankith Harathi
@devin_nash making sure you're not late to your next meeting! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
Akhilesh Balaji
This is amazing! But I use Windows 10, and I can't use it. Will you be adding Windows in soon?
Ankith Harathi
@akhilesh_balaji Thanks! And yep - we use Zoom's Electron SDK so we're working hard to bring support to more platforms soon.
Viraj Chavan
@aharathi I hope you'll bring it to Ubuntu/Linux as well! :)
Matt Bilotti
I've been using Macro for the last month now and it has added an amazing layer for note-taking and awareness of who is speaking throughout the meeting. No longer is my desktop cluttered with text-edit documents! So excited to see this team continue to build out awesome feature sets. The founding team cares deeply about the UX and it shines through with how polished this launch is. Great job, team!! Looking forward to all future updates! Would highly recommend anyone reading through these comments to sign up and check it out =)
Ankith Harathi
@mattbilotti Thanks Matt!! Keep the feedback and bug-finding coming πŸ›
