Hi everyone, Earlier this year, we announced that Liveblocks Comments was entering private beta and have since collaborated with dozens of design partners to help shape the best product possible. Today, we’re excited to open up Liveblocks Comments to everyone as a public beta. Liveblocks Comments is purpose-built for React, making it easy for you add commenting features to your product in minutes. The components are real-time, fully customizable, and accessible. It's also easy to integrate comments with any notification system, giving you full flexibility over email and notification flows. The Liveblocks team and I will be around all day to answer questions! πŸ™‚

@stevenfabre very cool! Are people using this for beta testing feedback, or actual customer engagement, or is this more for internal development?
Steven Fabre
@rajiv_ayyangar we already have dozens of customers using this in production in their product. They use Liveblocks Comments to quickly add commenting features to their product, and in return they tend to see an increase in engagement and user growth through comment mentions.

@stevenfabre Impressive work, team! The real-time, customizable, and React-friendly features of Liveblocks Comments are exactly what devs need to boost user engagement. How does it handle moderation? Excited to see its potential impact! πŸ™Œ #Upvote

@stevenfabre Hey @yura_turivny, first of all, thanks for the kind words! Really appreciated! During our beta phase of COmments, we didn't get a lof of request for moderation, but we're seeing more and more of it today. Very interesting? I'd be curious to hear your exact needs, and what you're building. My first thought would be to have new permission to allow someone to remove someone else's comments/threads, right? Oh, btw, I'm Product manager here, thus the detailed questions πŸ˜„ Again thank for your time! πŸ™

@rrhoover Exciting! You may like to check out our examples, we've built a few complex ones already, e.g. video comments, text editor comments, comments overlay on any website. https://liveblocks.io/examples/b...

I like how extensible Liveblocks Comments is. The use case I always think of is documents like Google docs, etc. However, seeing Comments having the ability to be embedded within text editors, media players and more unlocks a lot of interesting use cases!
Chris
@sg2 πŸ’― you can add Comments to just about anything! When building examples I was also thinking of Zoom, SoundCloud, Notion. You can take it to the next level too, e.g. use it to make a Chrome extension that adds a Comments overlay to any website you visit.
Grant Forrest
Congrats to the team on the launch! Let me say as a builder who loves working on collaborative apps... comments are underestimated as a problem, like most realtime features. They're so deceptively simple looking that product often thinks it's a small ask, but try to build them yourself and you will probably miss your estimate or regret it once users start asking for edit, delete, reactions... threads!!! Why reinvent the wheel? The Liveblocks team has done a great job breaking down realtime product features into drop-in solutions and this is a compelling entry in their portfolio. The extra primitives and tools look first class, too. Amazing stuff.
Chris
@grant_forrest Thanks so much Grant! I've been testing it solidly for two months, and now it's really polished and the DX is fantastic. And you're totally right, there's so much more to consider, but you often don't realise until you start building. The primitives and hooks honestly feel like a superpower. Thanks again!
