This looks soooo much cleaner and the addition of real-time chat is super interesting but I don't see myself ever using it. No disrespect to LinkedIn but connections are too loose on the platform, with people I met once at a conference when I was 21. I'm afraid chat would be distracting. That said, I can see how it would be useful for others. Curious to hear others' POV.
@rrhoover Loose connections are a choice. I only connect with people I could recognize or point another person towards (aside from recruiters...but even then I cull the ones that I've worked with and drop the rest).
@rrhoover I think it's the other way around: people are too quick to accept connections from people they barely know :) As long as you do your curation job, realtime chat should be okay! Been looking for a way to nurture these relationships for a while now.
@rrhoover yes connections are a problem and LinkedIn should have had some rigorous rules around it. As a working professional, LinkedIn adds zero value to me. At best it is monster 2.0. The platform has been abused.
@rrhoover Much much cleaner. I totally agree with you on connection being too loose - particularly for people such as myself who have completely switched industries. I can see how chatting with people from same groups could be useful but then again in a business setting chatting seems a bit weird... But all in all its a good change for LinkedIn.
I just don't get it. What's the change here? I mean if you were going to redesign you might as well take the bar a bit higher. It seems as if LinkedIn trying to be Facebook but messier. I see it becoming even more spammy.
@theelooper That was literally my exact thoughts. I was going to say that it doesn't look like much of a change. Its still cluttered and busy like crazy.
@_jacurtis Agree! Totally! They're doing this design just to create the hype for nothing since they mentioned they spent millions to redesign the platform. The ironic wow. But oh well I am waiting for the next big platform to shift from these awful experiences. They're too old for this creative shift of the 21st century.
@theelooper exactly! Kind of love the LinkedIn potential, but always feel disappointed when need to use simple tools like search, connections filter or a recap of my updates... Simply, all the basic stuff for a Working Social Network.
@ourielohayon I think the chatbots would be interesting. Though we might be hammered but lead generating bots, the use case for bots should be interesting here.
@tawanike@ourielohayon As with all bots, some are going to be useful and others are going to be maddening. It'll be great for lead gen, but I suspect highly visible folks or those with in-demand skills are going to be bombarded with requests from recruiter bots that are going to make the platform pretty unappealing if they aren't actively looking for work.
It's certainly prettier. The video with the upbeat music and hilariously slow moving cursor seems to show that they haven't begun to address the larger content problem with Linkedin. I don't ever need news from Linkedin. It's uninteresting, irrelevant and trends days later than other news channels. I don't need top 10 career advice lists. I would love to use Linkedin for actual professional connections and as soon as I stop getting only spam connection requests I'll think about getting into Linkedin again.
Something else to note about this redesign is they seemed to strategically "design out" some pretty key features. From what I can tell, Premium Search Filters does NOT come out of the box anymore and you can no longer PDF a profile. You also can't view your message history with a 1st degree contact on the profile, which I particularly miss already.
Seems smoother, the previous version of Linkedin are a little bit confusing, too manny hidden options, i like the real-time chat, can help with the interaction with my connections, i understand @rrhoover point, but we had always the chance to disable :) when can we start using it ?
The last year has been a constant dumbing down of LinkedIn. The search functionality has been horribly broken (and they've never responded to a single email I've sent pointing out what's not working), and it's also becoming a haven for spammers and scam artists. I definitely have no need for a chat feature.
Looks great! Everything I use is now easily available. Never new Linkedin had a job board despite using LinkedIn multiple times a month, so this helps a lot!
this is the only platform where people can think or discussion about their aim and career! corporate world maximum involved with these social platform ...it need to be well organized.
