I have zero interest in marijunana, but are there any growing systems for growing food in your apt?
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@joshdance Hey Joshua, Leaf can also grow the highest quality food as well! We have grow recipes for different veggies and herbs.
Niv Dror
So Cool!
Michael Musgrove
@nivo0o0 That's a really weak-looking plant in there. They should have at least shown that it grows some nice, stout, healthy, non-leggy, robust product with thick kona. I'd expect a plant to be more productive than the one shown for that $.
Anton.Bal
@mbmusgrove @nivo0o0 Yeah bro, def should have amped up what a 1 plant closet can do, instead of just being realistic ;)
Michael Musgrove
@amstb1 @nivo0o0 Not sure what you mean by "amped up" but I was suggesting improving the design to increase yield, not simply setting false expectations, brother. That would be a much more sustainable business endeavor.
Jack Smith
It looks interesting and complex, but how much does it cost (a range is fine)? All I see is many prompts offering a 'discount'.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@_jacksmith answered up top :)

I can't wait to get mine.

I've never wanted to start smoking more in my life. Well done.

I don't and won't be growing, but if that can only grow one plant, how can it yield enough per season for many patients? I wonder what the electric bill impact is. I still remember getting screwed in college thanks to a roommate growing - THANKS ERIC.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@stttories Hey Tori, Leaf was built with personal consumption in mind. From data from legal states we know people that consume daily consume on average 1.6 grams per day. With Leaf growing 4-5 ounces per grow, it should be able to supply enough for most consumers.
Joshua Kidd
Probably one of the coolest things I've seen in quite a while. Not sure if there are other like this, but definitely a need for products like this in the cannabis industry.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@zachharris We actually plan on using Affirm! You just can't for pre-orders. Need the final shipped product first.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
Hey guys Yoni here! Founder of Leaf. So to answer a few questions: 1. We will have a lock, not a bio lock, but a lock nonetheless ;) 2. Accurate pricing info will be available in the fall but will fall in the $2000 range. There will be a payment plan available.

Re: quality. Quality has been the leading force behind our engineering. After many tests together with experienced growers in Colorado and in Israel it became clear that "remote controlling" wasn't enough. We decided to add an air control system, meaning you can control the temp and humidity of the grow space within a certain range that plants love. Each strain grows differently, each phenotype within a specific strain grows differently, so we made sure the hardware could handle everything. In order to do this today you would need to turn on an AC in your grow room, or put a heater, which is wildly inefficient and impractical for most home grows. In our test grows we have been maximizing the potential each genetics we are using, and have been very happy with the results. As we get closer to launch in the fall we will continue to release grow results and testing, from final units, and not from prototypes. We want to be evaluated on results. Re: quantity. The design mindset behind Leaf was that it needs to supply enough for most consumers consumption while maintaining a decent size so that it would fit comfortably in a home. There were also logistics concerns about size and we didn't want shipping to be crazy amounts! Based on official data from legal states, as well as customer surveys, the 4-5 oz per grow cycle should provide most consumer's enough for their regular consumption. Perhaps not every single person, but I think we made the right decision for a first product. In the future, based on demand, we will probably create another size, most likely larger (but maybe a smaller one too if there is enough demand).

@joniofir Hi Yoni, will I be able to buy this in Israel and avoid waiting for international shipping? :)
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@danr_4 Hey Dan, we'll be shipping to the USA and Canada to begin with, but working on international distribution, including Israel soon.
Andreas Mitschke
@joniofir @danr_4 Aren't there multiple legal issues with shipping this international?
Avery Haskell
@joniofir am I correct that some Pre-orders were $350?
Anton Perreau
So much for falling within the $2000 range...
Dan Rosenshain
Absolutely love it. looks like the whole package! Two notes 1. I hope these nutrient boxes are not causing a lock-in (as in I need them to have a decent yield and I can only get them from leaf co) 2. It's ok to use cannabis instead of "medicine". this whole avoidance from using cannabis and using medicine everywhere makes me feel you're trying to "play" me. yeah I know marketing talk and legal and stuff, but still I think it does more harm than good to the industry. if we use the word cannabis more, it's negative impact will lessen.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@danr_4 Hey Dan, 1. For the automatic dosing, we are offering our nutrient line. You are free to manually dose your own nutrients as you see fit. The reason is many nutrients will either a) clog the dosing system (if organic) or b) ruin the dosing pumps (mineral). We need to maintain the integrity of the hardware so thats why we opted this route. 2. The title of the post is "Leaf - Plug-n'-plant automatic cannabis home grow system." I agree cannabis is not a bad word and should be used more often. We use the word cannabis and medicine interchangeably.
Dan Rosenshain
@joniofir What about making the pod design and requirements open source? This could potentially also open up another revenue stream for you guys - pods and nutrient accessories (pod containers, nutrient mixes, pods that clean the system) - similar to coffee capsules for coffee machines.
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@danr_4 Yes we have discussed opening up the opportunity to allow nutrient manufacturers to use our pod design and have us "vet" their nutrient formulas to make sure it is safe in the system. A free for all open source is something we've also discussed but it would be hard to make sure people were using formulas that wouldn't destroy their Leaf. There is also a concern with safety certifications (UL) when it comes to this. Everything is on the table, though. We welcome collaboration which is one of the reasons we allowed customized recipes and sharing through the community - we want to see new things come from this :)

This looks like it could really help patients with physical limitations be able to grow, or parents who don't know much about it but need a specific strain for their kid. Finding one specific strain can be tough on patients who live in remote areas and growing can take a lot of effort to get a medical grade quality, this has potential to help with that. I hope you don't mind my questions :) It looks like it holds one plant are there any plans for more? 4 - 8 oz per plant can you set the settings to favor quality over quantity? Is it easy to grow a lot or does it help you grow top top shelf quality? Some dispensaries in Colorado offer grow help to patients do you have plans for plant support? It might be harder to get help if you don't have as much control over it or if they aren't familiar with it as a system. Is there a manual override so a grower could change chemical settings? Can custom blends of nutrients be refilled into the boxes? Many people start growing by asking their dispensary what they recommend to grow at home because they trust them. Saying 4 - 8 oz per plant is cool but what would really sell it would be if you had plants tested by certified labs. If you could say an new grower grew "4 oz of X strain at Y% THC and Z% CBD" compared to a dispensary that grew the same strain from the same seed pack or mother, it would really help people know the quality it helps you produce. Would it freeze on a porch, balcony or garage in a Colorado winter during a snow storm? How loud is it? If a commercial grow had a dozen of these would they pass certification? Plants need love, can it play them music? let the grower talk to them? :) If you stay patient focused you can't go wrong and people will know the difference. There are two distinct marijuana industries and the people who stay dedicated to helping people are the ones that succeed. If you live in Colorado you might know a budtender or dispensary owner who really are in it to help people and have some amazing stories about people who live significantly better lives with the help of marijuana. Don't let bad attitudes discourage you!
Jonathan (Yoni) Ofir
@joshuawilluhn Thanks for all the great questions. You can put 1-4 plants in a Leaf, but we highly recommend 1 plant because its easier to grow and doesn't get as crowded. Plus, if you try to put in tall growing and short growing strains it becomes a mess! In a grow space the size we are working with and with specific lighting you will pretty much yield the same amount with 1 or 4 plants. Quality is always in mind as we are able to give the precise environment throughout the grow, including nutrients. In our tests we maximize the potential of the genetics we use every time. We will have grow support baked into the app throughout every stage of growth. Meaning if there are any issues you'll be able to figure them out via the app. You can change the amounts of nutrients being dosed from each pod, but not refill pods on your own. The reason is certain nutrients will either clog up the tubing (if using organic) or ruin the pumps (if using mineral). We've built the formulas to both be great for the plants but also work with the mechanics of the system. Anyone is welcome to use their own nutrients manually of course, but we need to maintain the integrity and quality of the hardware. As mentioned above, quality has been maximized with all the different genetics we've used. Official lab testing is on the way. Fun fact (or not so fun): in Colorado you can't get official lab testing done unless you are a licensed producer. Not sure why that is, because in California anyone can submit. Thanks for all the awesome questions, the goal has always been and still remains giving you the highest quality medicine and food, and that has led the engineering work from day one :) - Yoni
eboy
Not bad for $2000.

@eboy It's a really cool product. I use a similar unit, but it is not as efficient as this one. Recently I decided to change it and I'm really thinking about buying a leaf. It looks very cool, and everything is perfectly implemented in it. It can be seen that it was created by real professionals. I use my system to grow cannabis. But don't think anything bad, I'm not a drug addict. I am doing this solely for medical purposes. You've probably heard of the cool health benefits of cannabis? This is actually a very profitable business. Since I have a license to do this, it is legal. To be honest, I myself quite often use such pills instead of regular pills. They are much more effective in eliminating diseases. I first learned about this from https://www.myherbology.com/penn... . Headaches, anxiety, stomach pains, all this can be eliminated thanks to this.
