It seems an awesome product! Looking forward to try the sync between my kindle and my mac. On the website, you mention a free and a paid version of the app. But I can't find any detail on the difference between them, is there any?
@jorisrenaud Hi Joris, thank you! Knotes definitely worth a try! Knotes is a paid app which enables a 7 days free trial. The free download is actually a full version but with trial limitation. If you like Knotes after trial ends, please buy a license through our store. Thanks a lot for supporting us!
@brady Hi Brady, you got the point! Knotes only supports connecting Kindle and syncing highlights and notes to your Mac for version 1.0.1. But I planned to add syncing through Kindle web service at version 1.1.0. It has a high priority in the development queue but also needs more time to polish.
Browsing kindle highlights and notes is terrible on https://kindle.amazon.com/your_h.... Although I think many of my notes are also from Audible books, so might need to wait until this is hooked up with the web service.
@samuelbeek Thanks Samuel! Appreciated for your praise. But because of the limitations of Kindle, I can only access clippings right now. However, we can imagine the general Kindle manager in case Amazon release APIs which enable third party developers to implement this in the future. Do you want to have all the features of current Kindle for Mac app at the general Kindle manager? Or which features do you want most?
This is great! I love to do write ups for myself after finishing a book and exporting all of the highlights I've made will make that so much easier.
Thanks @dukewan
@lcpriest Thank you! Great habit to do write ups! And I'm glad Knotes can help you with that. I like doing reviews periodically and go through highlights can bring me back to these scenarios.
I love Knotes and will keep active on developing Knotes. Please wait for more upcoming features. : )
@rrrraulsc Hi Ra, please make sure you have the My Clippings.txt file in the documents folder of Kindle volumn. If not, please try to make a highlight in a book and then press the sync button at Knotes, the highlight should be synced immediately to Knotes.
@rrrraulsc Oh, that must be the reason. For now, Knotes only supports English and Chinese. Please wait while we are working on new versions that supports Spanish. I want to make sure that are the contents in your Mis Recortes.txt like this?

@levibostian Thanks Levi!
For backup to Dropbox, for current version, you can manually copy the data file in the ~/Library/Application\ Support/knotes/data and ~/Library/Application\ Support/knotes/covers folder. Auto backup options will be added in next update.
Thanks a lot for purchasing Knotes! I will keep update Knotes and make it a powerful clippings manager!
@topaz_tee Hi Topaz, It's already in the plan!
It's my first Mac app and I'm not very familiar with Mac App Store's sandbox mechanism right now. So it's much easier to release the Non Mac App Store version at first. For now, Knotes is code signed with my developer certificates issued by Apple but not sanboxed. After I finished the details of working with sanbox, the Mac App Store version will be submitted soon!
Also, distribute outside Mac App Store enables me to provide free trial version for users!
So Knotes will be sold on both Mac App Store and our store in the future.
Viewing and sharing highlights from Kindle is a pain and Knotes looks like a great way to do that. I like that you've decided to go web app. Does it make sense to have a goodreads integration on the app (already comes with the Amazon account?) and show UGC from friend circles - richer perspective about the books listed? Or want to just restrict to highlights?
@tmatthewj Hi Matthew, thank you! In the near future, Knotes will focus on being an efficient clippings manager. There are so many long wanted features including better exporting, syncing to knowledge database(eg. Evernote), hook up to the web service, post-edit etc. Goodreads has already been integrated with Kindle and works very well. It also shows UGC from friend circles. So I think that maybe Knotes won't integrate Goodreads in the future.
Hello there, still no plans to integrate with the web service?
Stumbled upon this and loved the look and easiness but only one thing stops me from buying, that you still don't have the web service integration yet
@adambader Hi Adam, great question! Knotes will also sync highlights and notes form PDFs/Documents imported into your Kindle. I have tested PDFs and Instapaper newsletter documents. But for current version, Knotes only display highlights. In the next version update, notes will also be displayed in Knotes app.
@adambader The Cracking_The_Coding_Interview is a PDF imported:
Also the 3 Instapaper newsletters are imported through Instapaper's weekly delivery service.
I'm very excited to announce that my Mac app Knotes is finally out! I created Knotes to help Kindle users manage and view all of the book highlights on your Mac.
No need for any configuration, just connect your Kindle to your mac and press the sync button, Knotes will parse all the highlights and download book covers automatically. In addition, Knotes can group different books by authors. Full text search and distraction free mode supported!
More features including PDF and HTML export, social network sharing etc coming soon. Advices and feature requests appreciated!
Download and have a try today!
