Great to see this product updated after so long! But β€” have to admit the sticker shock is pretty high. Major Changes
  • Redesigned interface and new app icon; Kaleidoscope's design now fits macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey.
  • Gorgeous new dark appearance
  • Runs natively on all Macs, including those based on Apple silicon (Apple M1 chip).
New
  • Reader view makes it easier to focus on the content
  • Greater control over how text is laid out: better font options, choose your preferred tab width, line height, hide all invisibles, and turn off line numbers if you don’t need them.
  • Ability to ignore particular folders and files during folder compare, using powerful patterns
  • Persistent top toolbar with convenient Add and Paste buttons
  • Git changesets now recognize moved files
  • Convenient filtering of items in changeset windows
  • Powerful integration with Alfred
Improved
  • Redesigned Unified text comparison and File Shelf views to make it easier to review differences and keep track of files being compared
  • Binary plists are now supported (including webloc files)
  • Switch between absolute and relative image rendering directly from the menu
  • Progress feedback when adding a second folder to the folder scope
  • Proper sorting of items in the sidebar in changeset windows
  • Option to turn off wrapping around when jumping through changes/conflicts
Fixes Way too many bugs have been fixed to note individually

Waiting for my next source code (git) conflict to resolve through Kaleidoscope 3-way merge. Great to have deep tools like this to handle these cases (and a lot more). Glad to see a great team come up with a great app. Keep going folks πŸ‘

@rsebbe Thanks Raphael! πŸ€—

I use Kaleidoscope for ten years now (I just looked it up!!) and I haven't seen any other diff tool that I liked this much. I'm very excited to upgrade! Btw: I know the price sounds a bit high in the first place, but people who need this app, are likely to use it on an everyday basis.
Florian Albrecht
@stefan_kracht Thanks Stefan, great to have you as a customer. 😊

Amazing product, highly recommended!

@timschroedernet Thanks Tim! πŸ˜ƒ

Do you plan on releasing a windows version? Product looks amazing.
Florian Albrecht
@adrian_poaca Thanks for the praise! :) However, no plans at this time for a Windows version. We love great native apps and do not have the knowledge and experience to create a Windows app of equal quality.
Israt Jahan
Congrats on your launch!! but is the price high?
Florian Albrecht
@isratjahan17 Thanks Israt. No, we don't think so πŸ˜‰

@flo_muc can you share how you arrived at your pricing? You're or course fully empowered to price your product however you like, but relative to other tools, $149.99 seems high to me. For some examples: β€’ Transmit is $49 β€’ Nova is $99 (or $49/yr for annual updates) β€’ Sketch is $99/yr or $9/mo How many of the future updates does the $149 price point cover?
Christopher P. Atlan
@flo_muc @chrismessina we want the app to be profitable at our current team size of three. We made great progress in this small setup. Based on the historical sales, this only seems possible at a higher price point.

Got it. Will be very interesting to see how this works out! Would love to see development continue!
Indranil Dasgupta
Used to be a big fan of the product, and the new version looks awesome, and definitely worth a try! But, not sure it's for everyone at the price point, especially where basic diff tools are built in to a lot of products nowadays
Florian Albrecht
@indranil_dasgupta Hey Indranil, thanks for your feedback! Indeed, no product needs to (or can) target everyone. Kaleidoscope is for Mac users who value a modern native app that integrates well and doesn't get in the way. We certainly hope to find enough customers who do.
