Gboard a new keyboard from Google for your iPhone. It has all the things you would expect from a great keyboard — GIFs, emojis, and Glide Typing — plus Google Search built in.
@cherianthomas recorded myself doing this in QuickTime by connecting the iPhone to Mac. Then when I had the video I made a GIF of that part of the screen :)
Apologies if this has already been said but there are just too many comments in here 😝
Fantastic keyboard as to be expected from Google however 2 things immediately stood out
1. no 3D touch selection capability. I'm sure they will figure this out but it's how I use my keyboard on the 6S, it's a game changer IMO, can't go back. I see they have the ability to swipe on the spacebar for cursor selection but it's just not the same
2. the Emoji search in the emoji tab is cool however you know what's even cooler? Emoji QuickType suggestion 😎
@syswarren I feel bad for people hunting for the right emoji. I've been using @davidkmckinney's Emoji Type for over a year, although it hasn't been updated to include the newer emojis
@rrhoover@syswarren@bricon5 ha! thanks for the shout out Ryan. Gboard is *really* good. Great execution… re: Emoji Type, that was acquired last year, and no longer available 🙊. I like Gboard a lot — super fun combo of features and functionality 😃
@orliesaurus Just like youtube cried itself to sleep with video, twitter did with buzz, spotify did with music, and the list goes on. The "what if Google does it" question is over-rated.
@blakeir@jasonlbaptiste@orliesaurus yeah if Google would do everything, then I stay in bed all day but it's not the case! We're building our product and here to stay!
@orliesaurus That's not necessarily a bad thing. It should only drive those startups to make better products. I know I personally have tried at least 3 other gif keyboards now, and haven't been able to use a single one of them as a functional keyboard. On first try, this one seems just as good (if not better) than the native keyboard.
I've been using it since it launched, I like the inline search a lot, but as a big guy with fat thumbs, I find that it produces more errors than the iOS system keyboard. For that reason, I'll be transitioning back to the system keyboard. I will keep an eye on updates and swap in and out for GIF battles.
I love this product. Any way to add the features the Crimson Keyboard copied from Blackberry. They certainly don't have a patent on it. It would be the ultimate ios keyboard.
@bricon5 Love this, very comprehensive. One bug is that when doing a places search - such as "coffee shop" or "Restaurants near me", after getting the result cards, clicking the directions button (arrow sign) on a card takes me to Google.com in the browser with original query. I would instead expect it to have the value of the particular card, so I get can get directions. Instead I am just repeating the search in a bigger window and it means each card behaves the same and is somewhat useless. I'd love it to open right in Google Maps, either through detection or Universal Links, but I'd settle for the exact result to be preloaded on Google.com
Also I'd love the option to have predictive text after gliding, instead of auto correct suggestions, without the need to hit space. This is how SwiftKey works, which is by far my favorite keyboard on both iOS and Android. It allows the fastest possible typing. Thanks again!
