@stedmanblake Absolutely! This is a perfect example of a tool that helps people be Indistractable! @dkthehumand - I think you'd really enjoy reading my book!
DK is probably the most focused person I know. He spends less than ten minutes a day on his phone. The other day, I was wondering how the hell he does it so I decided to ask him. Turns out he’s built a bunch of his own internal tools that he was keeping to himself. Glad he’s finally sharing them with the world. Intention is a complete gamechanger.
@parthi_logan thanks parthi! me too — i'm glad that there is a lot more activity in this space because we need all the help we can get to properly defend ourselves
this thing has legitimately saved me hours. every time my mind wanders while coding and i cmd tab to twitter, it's there, breaking me out of the loop. it really feels like a lucid dreaming totem, kicking my brain back into gear
Hey PH!
I've been working on a Chrome/Firefox extension called Intention to help me stay focused and not get distracted, and for me and my friends, we've found it more effective than any other tool we've tried.
The idea behind it is extremely simple: Commit to a time limit **before** using a distracting site.
This prevents the two most common ways that we get sucked into distractions online:
1. Habitual navigation: Throughout the day, we reflexively type "t"/"f"/"r" and immediately start scrolling through Twitter / Facebook / Reddit / etc. By stopping you before you start browsing, Intention gives you the opportunity to decide not to get sucked in.
2. Mindless browsing: Our willpower is no match for the endless stream of personalized content optimized to keep our attention for as long as possible. By pausing your browsing after your intended time limit, Intention restores your focus.
You can set a daily limit to know how much time you've spent across all distracting sites, and for every day you stay under your limit, you'll grow your personal streak!
I designed Intention with privacy as a core priority, and here's what that means:
🔒 Intention requests access only to the sites you select, not all sites.
💪🏽 Intention gives you full control over all the data you share.
✅ Your browsing history stays in your browser and is never transmitted.
Intention is part of a suite of tools I'm developing to help people spend their time well, and I'd love to hear your feedback.
DK
P.S. If you'd like to read about the process behind developing Intention, I've been publicly writing a daily journal at https://roadtoramen.com
@dkthehuman Hi DK,
First of all, congratulations, on this awesome product launch.
I am documenting journey of makers, creators, entrepreneurs through out the world.
The goal is to do a short interview, capture it in video, and let it out to the world, so that others can get inspiration. And also to get an acknowledgement, for you, and for your hustle.

Thanks for building this DK <3 I use this with https://www.hidefeed.com/ and the time I get back is allowing me to focus on my hobbies. Like knitting pants & watching grass grow.
I've used several of DK's previous tools I can say that again here he demonstrates his knack for user empathy and attention to detail in his creations. Intention is a tool which respects the need to sometimes venture into the dangerous territory of distracting websites, but allows us to do so with a new weapon that makes them less likely to suck us into an oblivion of scrolling. Great work!
I like the message but it terms of technology, it reminds me a lot like kaffae.com and inmotion.app. But I like your message a lot more! Great landing page btw. Keep going and good luck!
Just installed this and I love it.
Feature request for ?makers: I sync my chrome profiles across two machines. Would love it if I could sync my website blocklist across machines.
Hi, I'm Zain. ["hi zain" echoed by group]
Intention gave me my life back. Product idea, @dkthehuman - show me just how many hours I've saved total. I'm sure it's a ton!
It's crazy how easy it is to waste time on the internet without realizing it. Intention helps me be more mindful when browsing and helps me avoid endless time sucks. Thanks @dkthehuman for another thoughtful product.
ps. the onboarding with transparent and understandable privacy settings should be a gold standard for other products. Really well done on that!
I've got a forty day plus streak going on Intention and it feels great. I will say, I probably do the same amount of work as I always have, but I take much higher quality breaks now. Instead of browsing Reddit for a half hour I might go for a walk or pick up a physical book or stand up and stretch before.
I like Intention's approach because sometimes I really do need to go on a site like Facebook for a work/mission reason... but then I can get distracted by the notification globe and a minute later I still haven't done the intended task, at which point Intention helps me get back on track.
@matthew_bunday ☝️☝️☝️
Love that distinction between high quality breaks and mindless browsing.
Intention has definitely given me back more of my most scarce resource. ⏳
I've been using intention for awhile now and it's been huge for me. The interface is super simple and it provides the reminder I need to achieve the goals I'm going for (less time mindlessly browsing!).
Love the simplicity and clarity of this product. Have tried a few of these and they all seem to slow down the browser and steal your data. This is the first one that is genuine and trustworthy!
@dhruvm this is honestly one of the reasons why i'm been motivated to build my own tools — a lot of extension makers don't value user privacy (it's terrifying how much data they have access to), and i didn't want my data used for targeting me with ads or slurped up into russian servers
Just signed up, it seems good. I like that it pops up as you open a new tab. Some blockers are so militant when you do have a genuine need to go to a distracting site you end up having to turn it all off and forget to turn it back on
There are so many sites breaking my focus when I want to just complete a task. I really like how intention keeps my past and future selves on the same page as to what I should be doing. Awesome product and really happy to be using it!
Intention helps me stay mindful of why I open certain pages instead of following muscle memory. It keeps me off when I don't want to be, and I feel great about the time I do spend on sites because I consciously acknowledge I want to be there. Thanks DK! Now we just need a mobile version, please!!
