Hey Product Hunt! 👋 We're thrilled to introduce ImageKit's real-time AI image transformations to the amazing PH community! Our team has spent months refining these tools to make large-scale image creation and transformation more effortless than ever with AI and GenAI. What sets ImageKit's AI apart? Unlike other solutions, ImageKit's AI tools work right from the image URL! Just like it is now fairly common to specify the desired image dimensions in the URL, you can now apply AI features like generative fill or background removal simply by adding it to the URL. Therefore, you can use them at scale, as a part of your code on websites and apps, and create stunning visuals by combining AI with the existing 50+ image transformations ImageKit offers. 🪄 What AI transformations are available? We now offer 7 powerful AI transformations, including: - Generate new images: Create images from text prompts directly in the image URL. - Create image variations: Generate visually similar versions of any image. - Generative fill: Expand images to match your desired aspect ratio. - Background removal: Remove and replace the background in an image via its URL. - Add shadows: Automatically add smart shadows to product images. - Upscale & retouch: Enhance low-res images to meet modern standards. 🚀 Real-world applications Customers across industries are already using these tools to: Expand product images for different platform requirements. For example, converting a square product image to a vertical image for mobile or to a horizontal image for a website banner. Create consistent, studio-quality images with background removal, shadows, and upscaling. Produce new creatives for ads without buying new stock photos and combining image generation with image and text overlays to create personalized banners at scale. As more and more AI transformations get added, the possibilities of re-imagining creative workflows are endless. 🏆 Get started for free! These AI transformations are available to all users, including those on the Forever Free plan. Sign up now and start experimenting! Check out our AI transformations documentation to dive in, or watch the intro video above. We'd love to hear your feedback and questions in the comments. And if you love it, an upvote would mean the world to us! Thanks for your support! ❤️ About ImageKit ImageKit provides real-time media processing APIs and a robust Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform for tech, marketing, and creative teams. We offer over 50 image and video transformations, optimizations, and streaming options—available via a simple URL API and delivered over a CDN. Our DAM platform helps teams efficiently manage, search, and collaborate on assets at scale.

congrats on the launch 🚀 I'm honestly surprised this isn't higher up the rankings today! This is so useful and unbelievably easy to start using.
Harshit Budhraja
Just tried these and it's crazy good. Especially the prompt to image generation. All the generated outputs were so relevant, and the best option being that I could add them to the media library and start using other transformations on them right away. Game changer!
Rahul Nanwani
@harshitbudhraja glad you liked it. Try out the generate variant functionality as well to create a slight variation of an existing image, instead of starting fresh from a text prompt.

Looks amazing! We are very happy users off the free plan for years, and particularly pleased that the ai extensions also apply for the free plan. Just to be sure, the 650 (free) extension units are one off or monthly in the free forever plan?
Rahul Nanwani
@to_p The 650 AI extension units are included every month. The quota renews on the 1st of a month.
Manu Chaudhary
@to_p Its monthly :)
Somanshu Singh
Is there a trial for this as well? Would love to try it out.
Manu Chaudhary
@somanshu_singh Yes, we offer a forever free plan that gets enough credits every month for you to try and even use it on small projects.

Launching soon!
This could be huge for e-commerce sites! Imagine dynamically adjusting product images to fit different layouts without manual editing. Curious to see how this impacts site load times compared to traditional image processing.
Manu Chaudhary
@simonas_kauzonas Yes, that's one of the common use cases we've seen so far. A few others include removing backgrounds and adding artificial shadows to enhance product listings. Regarding site load times, AI transformations do take more time compared to basic resizing, but we cache the final results and even intermediate transformations when combining multiple steps through chained transformations. Additionally, with CDN caching in place, on a typical website, after the first request, it won’t affect load times—images will load in milliseconds!
vignesh krishnan
This is looks very interesting! Especially the prompt based image creation. But, can I apply multiple AI transformations to an image?
Manu Chaudhary
@vigneshskrishnan Yes, you can apply them one after other using our chained transformation. For example, remove background in first step, then add a shadow. Plus you can combine them with 50+ other transformations.

ImageKit seems like a product that could be so helpful to smaller teams🙌🏻 @luanat I think we should check it out a bit more throughly. Congrats on the launch @manu_chaudhary & Team!🥳

Excellent idea! Moreover, the threshold for doing this is extremely low, and it integrates perfectly into the existing workflow, which is fantastic. I believe your product has great potential; you could consider collaborating with various rich text editor tools to embed it in their tools as an entry point. Alternatively, your team could package a rich text editor tool that can be quickly used in all articles editing images and product detail pages. I think this would make it easier to promote and integrate into existing processes.
Manu Chaudhary
@an_zuo Thank you for the great suggestion! We’re already planning to launch an image editor within our DAM product, and we’ll also offer it as an open-source library for easy integration into other tools and workflows. This should help simplify adoption and make it easier for platforms, including rich text editors, to embed these features directly into their systems.

I’m already thinking of ways to use shadows on product images. How customizable are the shadow settings—can you control direction, intensity, etc.?
Rahul Nanwani
@shrenoy Hi Shreyas. We do allow you to set the angle of the shadow (azimuth and elevation) and the intensity/saturation of the shadow from the URL itself. You can check out the documentation here https://imagekit.io/docs/ai-tran...
Serena Job
How easy is integrating ImageKit’s AI tools into a website or app workflow? Any recommendations/ best practices?
Rahul Nanwani
@serena_job It is fairly easy. Just like you can specify the output resolution or compression you want for an image, similarly you can now specify the AI transformation you want to apply to it. However, would recommend that you use AI transformations with signed URLs on production to prevent misuse.

Congrats on the launch @manu_chaudhary ! AI is really changing our life now. Generative AI can help us achieve the things we couldn't imagine before. But I wonder who are your target audience? After browsing your website, I assume it should be a tool for business, and it's best for creating product photo with Remove BG
Anubhav Goyal
I just tried the tool it looks really good, and something that we as computer science students can leverage in our projects as well. However, can I control the output of generative fill to some degree?
Manu Chaudhary
@anubhav_goyal7 Yes it accepts text prompt, please checkout the docs - https://imagekit.io/docs/ai-tran...
