excelent idea.. i see the python powered from the backend!
Zoe Chew
@zodman Thank you so much! πŸ™Yeah I used Python & django for the backend. I really love the simplicity of django framework.

hey @whizzzoe, this is excellent! What's logic behind scanning? How does it understand key sentences? Btw a Chrome Extension would be great!
Graeme
wow this is really cool , do you have an API for it? at the moment I am using an api service to summarise articles for an email newsletter app i am making.. if you have an API maybe i could give it a go to see if it gives better results :D -- maybe it can grab the blog author name somehow too?
Zoe Chew
@graeme_fulton Hey Graeme! Thank you so much for your words! Yeah, I did the same I also used APIs to summarize text. You may check out https://english.api.rakuten.net/ I used it to explore APIs and have found some gems. Thanks to @jed_ng the maker behind this API marketplace.
Jed Ng
@graeme_fulton I think we can help you out! Will DM you. @whizzzoe thanks for the shout out. So proud to see Rakuten RapidAPI power a product of the day!

Congrat on the launch, this is a very clever tool! Pretty useful when in the rush. :)

what a cool idea @whizzzoe ! Just tested on some random links to see if the summaries created would be meaningful, and some worked well whilst others didn't. For instance, with https://www.forbes.com/sites/onm... it would make sense to grab the sub-titles and summarise those into bullet points. Instead, the app grabbed some section of text that doesn't really summarise the key takeaways from the article. So maybe this is something you could look to improve in future updates?

@whizzzoe This is awesome! To boost SEO, I see many news sites unnecessarily bloat articles, so this is perfect! A few suggestions - Create a chrome extension, so you can right click on any page and summarize it - Display original number of words vs summarized number of words, maybe even time saved - If its possible, benchmark data would be great. To show how good your algorithm is
Zoe Chew
@sharathprabhal Thank you so much, Sharath! I'm very grateful to hear your suggestion :) Love your input will def keep this in mind for future roadmap!
Anfernee Chansamooth
@sharathprabhal @whizzzoe good suggestions. would love to see key points broken out into bullet points too if possible.
Sharath Prabhal

This could be a major time saver if it were a chrome extension

Pros:

Simple, Fast

Cons:

Zoe Chew
Thank you Sharath @sharathprabhal for leaving a review! Will keep in mind for the chrome extension too!

Well done Zoe! I tried it out on some crypto articles published recently. It summarises them very well. I'd like to see it bring the title of the article in... maybe extract the H1 or try for the metadata. I'm guessing the next logical step is to build a SaaS where subscribers can choose topics and have their news feed automatically generated and summarised for them each morning!
Zoe Chew
@kodemunki Thank you Jurgen! I'm glad it works for you! Yeah I should consider adding the H1 before the URL link generated on the result page. SaaS is a great idea and getting brief news each morning is so awesome!😊
Barend
This is cool! Small bug: it seems like you forgot an array join(). I get something like "['LONDON β€” Theresa May announced Friday...', '...', '...', 'Last month...']"
Zoe Chew
@grooveplex Thank you so much, Barend! πŸ™ I'm so grateful that you share with me the bugs. Yeah I'll def keep that in mind to remove/filter the special characters πŸ˜…

Travis Fischer
Abstractive or extractive text summarization?
Zoe Chew
@fisch0920 Hey Travis! Thanks for leaving a comment. I'm not exactly sure since I'm built it with a ML APIsπŸ€—
Travis Fischer
@whizzzoe it's a high-level distinction between different types of ML summarization APIs. If you're making this type of product, this is an important distinction to be aware of. A basic summary can be found on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au...
Zoe Chew
@fisch0920 Thank you so much for sharing this, Travis! I've gained clarity on the distinction. Will study more about the many types ML APIs and their offering. πŸ€—
