⚡️⚡️⚡️ Hi, I'm the developer behind HyperCatcher! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ I built this app because I learn so much from Podcasts while I'm on the go. Every time I listen to a podcast I hear something that I want to follow up on (A book, a video, another podcast, a newsletter, an artist's tour, a research paper, a github project, etc, etc...). I don't always have time to rewind the podcast, or search through show notes to find what the host or guest just mentioned. HyperCatcher 3.0 gives you your own AI research assistant that you can call on any time to: 👀 Read through the transcript 🤔 Understand the question 🔎 Search the web 🔗 Show you the most relevant content directly in your podcast player!, All with the tap of the 👋 "Hey Jamie" button! HyperCatcher has some 🪄magical🪄 new features: 📋 You can also revisit this research any time in the Activity Feed where you can see a running list of your podcast listening history and notes you've left yourself on a podcast with a direct link back to that podcast or content. 📜 On device transcription for any podcast you listen to. Easily access the .srt transcript for any podcast you've transcribed or have all podcasts start transcription automatically. 🔎 Search the transcript for any podcast within the player while listening as it's generated in faster than real time. 🌎🔒 Browse the content mentioned by any podcast in an in-app browser sandboxed away from your default browser for privacy

This sounds super interesting! @1davidnorman, how does HyperCatcher handle different podcast formats, like interviews or storytelling? And what kind of content can it pull up most effectively? 😃 I love the idea of not missing anything while listening!
David Norman
@dance17219 Thank you for the great question! I think it probably handles interview style show discussing current events most effectively right now. For example it's very easy to find a current event being mentioned in a podcast in a search and bring up news articles about it. Storytelling is a little harder to find good references to. If the storytelling show has a website and the content from the website is mentioned during the podcast it should be found, but it's a much smaller target depending how accurately the content is described. Its something that I'm having a lot of fun actively improving so hopefully as AI models get better HyperCatcher should get better at finding what you're looking for! 😀

Congrats on the launch. there's something I'd like to understand : is the product based on text content? If some podcasts don't have transcripts, does that mean they can't be used?
David Norman
@oldmann Hi thanks for the great question! HyperCatcher uses super fast on device transcription so if there is spoken audio there is a transcript. On device transcription was a huge unlock for this sort of thing, I've been trying to build this feature for years, but transcripts always held me back so I'm very excited to be able to say that transcription has mostly been solved for any podcast at this point. There's still a question of how accurate the transcription is and it's not perfect, but it's pretty good in the majority of cases now I'd say.

@1davidnorman that's sound great! really appreciate your clear feedback! I think it's worth a try, Congrats again for the launch!

Hey David, I'm wondering about the accuracy of the transcription. How well does it handle technical terms or names that might be unfamiliar? Does the web search feature prioritize certain types of sources, or can users customize where it looks for information? Congrats on the launch!
David Norman
@kyrylosilin Thank you, great question! It's definitely not perfect, but over the past few years I've been working on this app I've noticed a big increase in transcription accuracy in the last year or so. I'm using the OpenAI whisper model which is much better at technical terms than previous models I've used. I plan to support downloading larger and even better whisper models soon that should do even better with thing like unfamiliar names. I would guess that unfamiliar names would probably be one of the larger sticking points now that should be improved by using a larger model trained in more languages

HyperCatcher sounds like a game changer for all podcast lovers! The "Hey Jamie" feature is super cool, and the idea of having AI research assistance right in the app is brilliant. Can't wait to see how it enhances my listening experience! Upvoting for sure! Keep it up, @1davidnorman!
David Norman
@antoine_gauthier_ Thank you! Looking forward to any feedback you have after giving it a try!

Hi David, congrats with a launch. Does I need to listen to a podcast inside you app? or HyperCatcher works as add-on to Spotify/Apple Podcasts?
Han Kim
Congrats on the launch @1davidnorman ! The "Hey Jamie" is such a good name for your feature 🤣🤣🤣 though I'm not sure if people who never listened to JRE will be able to catch that reference

It's a smart way to enhance the listening experience!

It might be helpful to include an option for users to save or bookmark the content that the AI pulls up for later reference.
David Norman
@draco_dawson Hi thanks for the comment! There's actually already a whole activity feed in the second tab so you can track all of your comment and research history. That's an area of the app I really want to expand on though so thanks for mentioning it!
