Excited to introduce HotSpot to the community! We’ve built this app to make finding the best spots around you easier and more fun. Whether you’re looking for the busiest venues or want to connect with others in real-time, HotSpot has you covered. We’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas on how we can make it even better. Thanks for checking us out!
There was a similar app that I remember from what I first moved to San Francisco, probably ~2012. Any learning from that era of similar app? What's the same? What's different?
I vaguely remember there was something they caught a lot of heat for re: allowing stalked to track where people were and breaking down the male:female ratio at bars. Was that a thing?
@elliottpoppel Yea I remember that! Definitely helped me refine this idea. We do have a male:female ratio thats solely based off users when they enter a geofenced venue and have the app on.
@danielwchen so accuracy will only increase as we partner with more venues. Right now accuracy is based off a foot traffic algorithm we built that is implemented in all non partnered venues.
Congrats on the launch! I've always wanted an app similar to this, an app that shows where people visit, where are the popular restaurants, etc. Going off of Google reviews just isn't the real deal, also other restaurant-recommending apps/sites don't help either. HotSpot is now my go to app for finding and meeting locals and find out their favourite spots (to eat obviously) and try them out
Love this! Are you planning on adding more types of events as well (i.e during the day like fairs/carnivals, or group meet ups)? Congrats on the launch! 🚀
Hey @cbosko the design looks really nice. Especially the heat maps are a cool feature.
2 questions
1. How do you handle the geofenced information in terms of privacy?
2. How are you building a critical mass per venue/city, this is something I know from my own experience is the hardest thing to do when building a social app.
Congrats on the launch 🚀
@crebuh Thanks Christopher!
All venues are geofenced, when a user opens the app within this vicinity they can interact with others or receive offers. Once they leave it disconnects the user from that venue, so users won't have continuous tracking on.
This was difficult for us as well. We created an interactive Discover mode where users will be able to connect with other users within a geofenced area. This feature can be used as live dating type of feature or just for connecting. This will help hold retention for users. Users can also purchase passes or offers within each venue also helping retention.
Congrats on the launch, @cbosko! 🎉 The concept of HotSpot sounds amazing for nightlife lovers. Real-time insights will surely boost engagement at venues. Can't wait to explore and see how it evolves! Upvoted!
@dfodev Thanks David!
Right now accuracy is based on a foot traffic algorithm we built that is implemented in all non partnered venues. When a venue partners we will be able to boost accuracy up to around 95%
Congrats on the launch @cbosko ! What is Hotspot's definition of "cool" or "hot" places - i.e. amount of people there, high scores in reviews, price point?
Love this idea actually, this is such a nice socialising tool. Other than use of locals it can be great tool for backpackers and solo traveler's to find people to hang out with.
@jack_michalak Hi Jack!
Yes, so our app works in the opposite way as well. If you want a chill night with a smaller crowd our HeatMeter shows you if its less busy as well.
HotSpot sounds amazing! Navigating nightlife has always been a challenge, so having an app that offers real-time insights is a game-changer. Kudos to @cbosko and the team for creating such a useful tool. Can’t wait to give it a spin! 🚀
@twoheads Similar yes as it connects users to local venues. Foursquare shows recommendations based on users previous history. We show users more so whats busy in live time with a social aspect for connecting.
HotSpot sounds like a game changer for nightlife enthusiasts! I love the idea of personalized recommendations and real-time insights - that’s definitely a major win for discovering new venues. @cbosko, can't wait to see how this app evolves with user feedback! Upvoting this for sure, as it seems like it could really enhance our social experiences. Excited to share this with friends and explore together!
Really excited about the launch of HotSpot, @cbosko! The personalized recommendations sound like a game changer for navigating nightlife. Looking forward to testing it out and seeing how it can enhance my nights out. Keep up the great work!
Hey Cody,
I'm interested in how you gather the crowd data. Is it purely user-generated or do you use other sources as well?
Do you have plans to expand beyond nightlife to other types of venues or events?
Congrats on the launch!
@kyrylosilin Hey Kyrylo
Currently we have our own algorithm that is a combination of user feedback as well as foot traffic for non-partnered venues. Once a venue partners we will then pickup data off a propriety system that will increase accuracy to around 95%
Yes, we plan on expanding to events as a whole as well as restaurants so its not just nightlife.
