@superamit@davemorin thank you and excited to be working with you both to get more people outside! We founded Hipcamp out of personal frustration around the difficulty of finding a great campsite and the deep belief that spending time in nature is very important. Welcoming any and all feedback on how we can better help you get outside!
I really like the intent of Hipcamp, but for me it fails to solve the number 1 issue of ReserveAmerica. The issue is it's difficult to look for available campgrounds by date. Hipcamp is showing me all of these great campgrounds, but the majority of them are booked on the weekend I want to go. I would love to see them add the ability to search by availability. I see that they are doing that for private land. I've played around with ReserveAmerica's api a bit, and while it is old and poorly documented, it does allow you to filter campgrounds by availability. Hope to see this feature added soon.
@alyraz 😔 wow. So what are the national parks going to use to manage their campgrounds? Are they going to make their own api? ReserveAmerica is not built for backpackers...it's for RV trips
Can someone describe how this is fundamentally different from ReserveAmerica? Apart from the improved UX (which, admittedly, is leaps and bounds better than ReserveAmerica) how does really change the fundamentals of the business? What keeps ReserveAmerica from doing a big UX update and having the same product?
Discovered this and ended up on a 20 acre former horse farm which was the rejuvenation I didn't know I needed. People were lovely both host and fellow campers. Hipcamp is an excellent idea
Not a fan. Avid globe trotter and Airbnb Super Host here. A hipcamp host never showed us her campsite and when sent a pic to confirm she confirms. Turns out it was not her property at all. Hipcamp REFUSED TO REFUND OUR 3 NIGHTS and sided with host when she could have endangered us and our toddlers. We never set foot on her property and had to tear down and relocate. Host never tried to meet in-person even though she lived at the end of the road. She refused to open the door for the neighbor who owned the property. The neighbor was more hospitable than host. Host did not mark the sites at all. Will NEVER EVER use this service until they correct their protection of guests and fully investigate the situation. That was insanity. Tearing down a pop-up and having to find another place and set it all back up again plus pay what a hotel would have cost us because of 0 refund granted...all in the middle of our journey. Was a horrible experience. My brother's fam also booked a site that was waist high in grass. Even with screenshots of messages between host, Hipcamp sided with owner.
