Hi Makers and Hunters! I love traveling when it's not just a sightseeing, but a deep dive into history and cultural context. Agree, your impression of a landmark, building or even an old stone changes a lot when you learn colorful facts about it or stories of related people. I wondered so many times about "what is this, who lived here and how", and couldn't find an immediate answer. Of course, in many cases you can hire a local guide, go to web and read or even watch in YouTube, but all these ways have multiple constraints. And they don't work like "I want it right now!" I thought it would be great at some moment just to have an app in your pocket, snap a photo and learn a story. And I was pretty amazed when GPT-4 has been released and I found that if you give it enough context, it is actually pretty good in historical storytelling and can tell stories comparable in quality to what you can get from an average local guide or audio guide. Then we jumped on building and released Android and then iPhone versions. We did multiple iterations to make app more clear and reliable with stories more accurate, insightful and engaging. Now we want to show it to you. Please, try it out and share you feedback on this!

Yo, this app is pretty cool. It uses some fancy tech to show you stuff based on where you are. The tech is solid, but the design needs some work. It would be so much better if it was smoother and easier to use. Hopefully, you'll fix that soon. Kudos to the creator though!

@naqushabneyazee, good notes! Let us if you got any particular ideas on design and making it easier to use! Much appreciated!

@oleg_bakatanov congrats on the launch! I am a big travel fan, so this is exciting for me. In how many cities do you support it already?
Dmitrii Ektov
@alexanderfarr Thanks a lot! You can interact with almost any object on the map all around the world that you want to learn about. Simply put, we support all cities.

I like it a lot! Just not the travel season now.. Well thought though to ofer several narrator types and lengths of the audio. Maybe add narrator typesfor smaller kids (5-6, 7-9 years)? And I didn't find the option to "save the chat". Is that an offline version?

This is exactly what I needed during my Kenyan trip earlier in the year! Was getting tired of switching between Google Maps, travel blogs, and Wiki pages just to figure out what I'm actually looking at. The photo recognition part is brilliant - would've saved me from that awkward moment staring at a temple trying to remember if it was the famous one or not 😅 Quick q - does it work offline? Data roaming killed my wallet last time.

Congrats on the launch! Herodot sounds like a fun way to learn history through AI-powered storytelling. What's your favorite landmark for Herodot to explore?
Oleg Bakatanov
@ihuzaifashoukat, The greatest point in using Herodot, that you never know what your learn. Any old building, which you may pass every day on your way, may actually surprise you. This is why I like to travel with such historical insights
