Now if you can make all the "hey.com" features available for gmail one by one through some plugins, that would be great :D.
Vinodh David
@srikrishnang you just leaked my secret plan :)
Vinodh David
@noahkagan - Remember you sharing a tweet where someone created a filter with the word unsubscribe :) This is way better and really simple. Point and click. Would love your thoughts on this.
Vinodh David
Hi all, Thank you @kevin for the hunt! We all have this problem of subscribing to multiple services but many of them require you to login to unsubscribe and its not easy to do on a busy day. We also don’t have the heart to mark them as SPAM, since its an email from a service we subscribed. And then there is actual SPAM where they get creative to get into our inbox. There were many free services that tried to solve the problem. But they traded your data in exchange for this functionality (unroll.me sighs). So it got us thinking can we solve this problem in a simple and privacy centric way.

Gmail Unsub was born. Its 100% private and no data is ever sent to our server. It stores and works only on your chrome browser. With a single click you can unsubscribe multiple emails.

These emails will never come to inbox and disturb you ever again. They are archived and labeled, so if you decide to search them later they are available. We are working on an update where you can choose to delete them as well.

Feel free to comment with any questions and do give the app a spin. Take control of your inbox with a single click.

@vinodhdavid So does it actually unsubscribe me from the mailing list or is it just straight up labelling and sending straight to archive?
Vinodh David
@sam_sosina It creates a filter in Gmail to archive and labels them. Immediately it removes 1k emails matching the email address. The next version will have delete.

@kevin @vinodhdavid @sivaram636 Congratulations on this launch. This cleans up a inbox pretty well and indeed is going to be a pretty useful tool for all Gmail users. Looks pretty useful and yet much needed. Looking forward for the next update.

@kevin @vinodhdavid @devaonbreaches thank you. Let us know if you have any feedback 🙂

@kevin @vinodhdavid Hi Vinodh, congratulations on Gmail Unsub. This looks very useful. How do you unsubscribe directly from services which requires one to login?
Jayesh Gopalan
My quest for searching privacy focussed unsubscribing email tool is finished with the discovery of Unsub. Earlier I was using unroll.me but one thing which I hated was how my data was shared with Rakuten intelligence team for data mining. Thanks, team Unsub :)
Vinodh David
@jayeshgopalan Thank you Jayesh!

I've been using it for a while and for some reason, it started removing important emails as well, the ones I never added to Unsubscribe. Besides, it's not really unsubscribing you from emails; it just labels them and moves to another folder, kinda like Spam folder. Had to delete the extension as it is too buggy to use and doesn't solve the actual problem.
Thamaraiselvam
Great job @Vinodh and @sivaram. I was using unroll.me but this pretty simple and secured. 👏🏻👏🏻
sivaram
@vinodh @sivaram @thamaraiselvam7 Thank you thamarai. Privacy is at the heart of everything we do :)

@sivaram636 Just tried this app. It worked really well and I have few questions though. - does this app queries my email from mail server or just working with html elements in browser? - I tried to unsubscribe an email and it showed around 200+ emails got cleared but still I can see emails from same sender in other pages.

I've had my email breached in bigger and more secure looking cmopanies so I'm really on the fence about giving my info to anyone. There is no guarantee to keep it 100% secure. A service like this would be an instant target for hackers, and you know hackers, they can hack anything they want if they're good enough :)
Vinodh David
@edinvejzovic This isn’t a service. It’s an extension. And all the details are stored in your chrome browser. Nothing is sent outside. There is nothing to target here other than the browser itself.
Devanand Premkumar
@edinvejzovic @vinodhdavid Thats a fair point. Since nothing is stored beyond the end users browser, there is not much anyone can do. Worst case situation, even if they compromise a user, its just one user and it is still contained and impact is very limited. I like this approach :)

Glad to have come across this - looks incredibly useful!

Yes, spam is the biggest pain and time-consuming thing when work with Gmail. Thank you for a great tool!
Vinodh David
@ivanpalii Glad you like it. Do spread the word :)

So why does this extension request access to my Gmail account to view emails? How can you prove you're not viewing my emails with the new access everyone is granting you? You're connecting an app to my gmail account. That app can do whatever it wants to in the backend on your servers, including viewing my emails (since you request permission to!) In response to: "This isn’t a service. It’s an extension. And all the details are stored in your chrome browser. Nothing is sent outside. There is nothing to target here other than the browser itself."
Vinodh David
@rjscoder We need view access to search old emails and archive them. Google has a security assessment process for apps requiring data to be sent to servers. And they checked us thoroughly. I can also share you my extension code and it’s easy to download the code of our extension. You can check them too. Hope that would help you to trust us :) And I totally understand your concerns.
Matthew Gates
@vinodhdavid Can you put it on Github?
Vinodh David
@rjscoder yes! We will do it this week.
Ernest Oppetit
@rjscoder @vinodhdavid Hi did you have a chance to publish the source? Would like to check it too before using this service. Cheers
Vinodh David
@ernopp @rjscoder Sorry got a bit held up. Will do it this week and update here.
Dmytro Krynyckyj
Hey ?makers , nice tool I was waiting for long ( full inbox of email Im even lazy to delete ). I installed your plugin and its super ezy / fast to clear. But I accidantally "unsubscribed" email I wanna subscribe... is there any solution to undo my mistakes ?
Vinodh David
@dmytro_krynyckyj - You can delete the filters under setting and then kindly remove and re-install the extension again :)

A clean inbox is a great sign of productivity. With Gmail Unsub, I can maximize my subscription list and make sure I go out of spammy ones. Kudos to the team of HelpNinja, I love the fact that it's free as well to begin with :)
Vinodh David
@bujold19 Thank you Gabriel, please do spread the word :)
Amrin
Seems like huge timesaver extension. Hope they continue to develop it.
Vinodh David
@amrin For sure Amrin :) Glad you like it!
Uladzislau Kaminski
Is this application need to be authorized to gmail account? Do you use OAuth authentification?
Vinodh David
@uladzislau_kaminski Yes it needs to be authorised and we use OAuth method.
Caden Sumner
Isn’t this already built into gmail? I unsubscribe on mobile every day.
Vinodh David
@cadensumner Gmail can only unsubscribe emails with an unsubscribe links and most of the emails don’t have that.
Dmitry Dolgopolov
Looks useful. Why does it need to know my browser history though?
Vinodh David
@dmitry_dolgopolov we request access for tabs to refresh your existing Gmail tabs for better onboarding. We don’t specifically require permission for history. Not sure if Chrome shows it that way.
Dmitry Dolgopolov
@vinodhdavid oh, you are right. I misread it or so maybe. It doesn't appear now. I am checking it out :)
Josh Sorenson
This doesn't even unsubscribe you like it says it does, this just moves the emails to a folder. If you want to unsubscribe use an app like https://leavemealone.app/
Vinodh David
@joshsorenson Not all emails have the unsubscribe header in them. So it’s a different attempt. As a value for end user the email never sees their inbox again. But technically it isn’t. It’s a fool proof method without missing any emails coming in. I am a fan of leave me alone too! Like what they do and the founders.
Jack Smith
this is cool; but i'd prefer it if it actually unsubscribed from the emails vs creating a filter to filter them
Vinodh David
@_jacksmith Thank you Jack. We will try to do that in the next version but still we felt this is more accurate, even after unsubscribing the sender can still choose to mail you. With this approach its impossible to get your attention again.
